Pentair Sta Rite Max-E-Therm heater- slow leakiwhere Manifold connects to main body

Hello, I recently noticed a leak near the manifold on my pool heater. Does anyone have any thoughts as to what might be the cause, and what could be done (if anything) to help diagnose or repair it? Is it likely that the heat exchanger is damaged? If so, would getting a new heater make sense...

flow increasing when closing a return?

Ok, that's great to hear. Sounds like they build these things with a fair bit of redundancy. Thanks again for your help. - - - Updated - - - I'm no expert, but I was under the impression that closing the returns would be like adding head to the system, thus reducing the overall flow. I...

flow increasing when closing a return?

Thank you Richard, that seems to explain it. In your opinion, could this be something I should worry about. I mean wouldn't it be possible to have very low flow but adequate pressure, simply by closing most of the returns? I know the obvious answer is simply not to do that. But I sometimes keep...

flow increasing when closing a return?

Well, the waterfall doesn't have any eyeball, just 2 open pipes pouring over some rocks into the pool. Elevation wise, they are about 2 feet higher than my other returns, could that account for the difference? - - - Updated - - - Is that likely? My heater is a Sta-Rite Max-E-Therm.

flow increasing when closing a return?

so this one is a puzzler for me. Normally, even with my 2 speed pump on low, my gas heater still gets enough flow to come on. Of course, when my filter gets dirty, the flow diminishes, and the heater switches off. What I don't understand is that when this happens, I found that by closing some...

How long did it take them to respond to you? I sent them an email on Tuesday asking about buying Taylor reagents, and haven't heard back yet.

Thanks for the responses. I guess I'll just keep an eye on it and retry the bucket test tonight.

    Evaporation question

Hi Richard, Thanks for the reply. According to this site Yesterday's and last weeks' weather in Waterloo, Ontario, Canada, the wind was fairly low, averaging around 10 km/h (6 mph) and the humidity was around 50%.

    Evaporation question

I read somewhere that evaporation increases with water temperature. But what if the water is cold, but the air even colder. Last night we seem to have lost a quarter of an inch. The water temperature is 55 and the temperature got down to 36 overnight. Would you expect a lot of evaporation in...

waterflow of sand filter vs cartridge filter?

That makes perfect sense. Thank you guys for the advice. It seems like I've got a bit of studying to do.

waterflow of sand filter vs cartridge filter?

I would really like to clean the filter, but like I mentioned, there's no way for me to open it up without cutting the pipes, and I'm not comfortable doing that. The water 'appears' to be clean. I use a chlorinator with stabilized chlorine pucks, and also add liquid chlorine every few days. -...

waterflow of sand filter vs cartridge filter?

Thank you for the quick response! I guess I'm worried that the flow is too low. The skimmer doesn't seem to do a good job, and I'm worried that since the flow at the returns is so low, the water isn't being 'stirred' enough, and some parts of the pool aren't getting proper circulation. At high...

waterflow of sand filter vs cartridge filter?

Hello all, I've got a question I'm hoping someone here will be able to help me with. I've got a 2 speed pump which I'd like to run at the lower speed in order to save on electricity. Unfortunately, I'm finding that it seems that I'm not getting very good water flow rate when using low speed...
