Pump wont turn on, I'm panicking!

I took off the metal cap, I've attached a picture here. Sorry for poor quality, I had to compress the photo 3 times to get it to be able to upload. So what am I looking for exactly? Taking off the capacitor (large black cylinder opposite of conduit?) to see if it's clogged or something...

Pump wont turn on, I'm panicking!

I had a few things come up and was just able to get to it. Now that I did, I noticed there are several points of entry on the motor housing. I want to make sure I'm getting to the right one. I think n249sxguy touched on it when he said: Here is a photo. Should I be going in at the "tail" end...

Pump wont turn on, I'm panicking!

Thanks guys. Just so I'm understanding here, I need to remove the part in the back (the motor housing, with the "Hayward" label), from the plastic unit. And make sure my breakers are flipped off before I do it. I'll take a look and see if anything is in there clogging it up. If I can rotate it...

Pump wont turn on, I'm panicking!

Here are some photos. I know I need to clean up back there and I guess I'll be doing that this weekend since I don't have a working filter! What does a bad start capacitor mean?

Pump wont turn on, I'm panicking!

Thanks for all the tips. I went back home and took a look. It's exactly what you said you when you said: After I flipped the breaker back completely and turned it on, there was a loud, out-of-the-ordinary hum that went on for about 5 or 6 seconds then the breaker would trip again. The filter...

Pump wont turn on, I'm panicking!

I didn't feel it and can't turn it on to check. It's been working fine since I bought the house a few years ago. Assuming it's the original pump when the pool was put in, its got to be around 5 or 7 years old, which to me doesn't feel that old for a pool pump. Yes it's on a timer. I'll have to...

Pump wont turn on, I'm panicking!

Hey guys, My pump won't turn on. No sounds, nada. I checked the breaker and it's fine. Anyone experience this? Is there a reset button somewhere or something I could try before paying someone to come take a look? Thanks!

Can this TA be right? (Newbie)

I'm in the same boat. Live in a hard water area so there isn't much we can do about lowering the TA past a certain point. I was told, on here, just to manage your pH and your TA will take care of itself. Not as low as ideal, but low enough.

**** Algae keeps coming back, I missed something...

Got it, makes sense. It seems like the tablets, while convenient, have their drawbacks and liquid bleach is the way to go. I'm curious how much I'll go through. I'm going to start tracking it. Thanks again.

**** Algae keeps coming back, I missed something...

Thanks. Water looks good. Done SLAMming. Started on Tuesday and just passed all my tests this morning. Now that everything is in line, I'll get back to standard filter operation (4-5 hrs/day). Water looks clear, OCLT is good, etc. I think last time I just lost track of my CYA which caused all...

**** Algae keeps coming back, I missed something...

Looks like all my readings are good except for TA. Just recorded this morning: FC - 7 CC - zero pH - 7.6 TA - 220PPM CH - 410PPM CYA - 35 Should I work to reduce my TA? Pool math says to bring my pH down to 7.0-7.2 with acid then aerate to increase pH. What does "aerate" mean? Is my TA high...

**** Algae keeps coming back, I missed something...

Just did a test and I'm off across the board. FC - zero CC - zero pH - 7.8 TA - 96PPM CH - 450PPM CYA - less than 30 Last time I SLAMMED I had a higher CYA, doesn't look I'll need as much bleach this time. And I'll need to backwash significantly to take care of the Calcium Hardness. But when...

**** Algae keeps coming back, I missed something...

Hi guys - you all helped with me with the initial SLAM process a couple weeks back and it worked great. I passed the overnight, CC and eye-tests and thought I was good. I took apart the filter, gave it a good cleaning and got the flow I needed. But I can't seem to maintain the FC level and the...

    PSI too high?

Got it, thanks. So CC is good. I tested FC this morning and lost 2 PPM overnight, so hopefully I only have one more day of SLAMing left.

    PSI too high?

I just tried testing my FC and CC. You can see the photo of the instructions in an earlier post, but for the CC test, it says, after completing the FC test, to "Add 5 drops R-0003. Swirl to mix. If combined chlorine is present, sample will turn pink." My sample didn't turn pink. Does that mean...

    PSI too high?

Thanks. I'll SLAM for another day or two, depending on the CC and OCLT tests tonight. The water looks clean, so I'm hoping those tests come out good and I can focus on just maintaining the FC level while taking care of the staining/scaling. I don't remember either of these every being a problem...

    PSI too high?

Yes, I've had to backwash for 10-20 minutes (initially during the slam) at a time since my pool got pretty bad. The water is clear in my sight glass, but to get the PSI where I need to go, it takes a little longer. I'm at the point now where I can keep it to 5-10 minutes, probably because most...

    PSI too high?

SLAMing is coming along, pool is in much, much better shape. Thanks for all the help. Scrubbing yesterday in the jacuzzi, I noticed a lot of cloudy-milky-white coming up, which I think I read somewhere here is dead algae, so that's good. While the pool is looking much better, I noticed some...

Trying to understand my pool plumbing

Hi guys, found this forum a couple weeks ago and love it, great info and everyone is really helpful. Had some great luck SLAMing (still going on) and while I was thinking about, wanted to check in on the plumbing. I bought the house a couple years ago and never really fully understood the pool...

Got it. Makes sense. Keeping the SLAM going, thanks.

    PSI too high?

I can't seem to maintain the ideal PSI of 15ish. I backwash, then it's good, then I check back 20 min later and it's back over 25. I assume that's normal? The water in the sight glass is clear, but I'm not seeing the flow I know I need to see to ensure good circulation (since I can't maintain...

    PSI too high?

Great tip! I didn't even know I had a sight glass until I looked around back behind the pump. Cleaned it out and now the water is clear after about 15-20 min of backwashing. Clean pressure is 15ish PSI, which is what started this whole thread. After a good scrub/vacuum it would get up to 25 or...

    PSI too high?

Thanks. I guess another general question around backwashing... how do I know when I'm "done" backwashing? Is it when my PSI gets to where I need it to be?

    PSI too high?

All right dudes, SLAMing has begun. I got the pH to 7.4 and dumped almost 6 gallons of bleach into the pool. I'm not getting much flow at all (filter probably got clogged up after I cleaned up some debris and vacuumed). I know the instructions say backwash as needed, so I just want to make sure...
