Re: Did I add to much stabilizer to my pool ?!?

Re: Did I add to much stabilizer to my pool ?!? Having too much stabilizer is definitely possible -- although strictly speaking it's not "too much", just "so much that managing your pool reliably becomes a huge pain in the ***" Yes, stabilizer = CYA and managing CYA levels seems to be one of...

Taylor kit, impossible to buy in the netherlands?

Best bet would probably be to look for a local-ish Taylor dealer: https://www.taylortechnologies.com/contact_distributors.pdf The TF-100 uses Taylor reagents but provides differently sized bottles of each reagent to best match what you'll need for following TFP. The Taylor kits work the same...

Nitrates in pool, told to drain

I'm probably missing something obvious, but which of the numbers you posted relates to nitrates ? Guessing it has to be the phosphates number but IIRC 200 isn't all that high... CYA definitely seems high and I don't know what the "Base" measurement refers to.

Newbie needs SLAMing advice, and how much sodium hypochlorite in Clorox Bleach?

Ahh, OK. My impression was that your poool is still getting less green every day (or at least every picture). I even went back and checked the previous picture before posting last time... (thinks for a minute)... guess I'd better go check that the previous picture wasn't a "before" shot ;)

    You told me....

I think OP may have meant "based on the pattern I have observed while maintaining the pool the pH is probably low at this point".

Help! I can not clear up pool water

Definitely. You'll find things suddenly become easy and obvious after you run a few tests and make about 20 more forum posts. Really !

Newbie needs SLAMing advice, and how much sodium hypochlorite in Clorox Bleach?

Hey, that's definitely improving. Remember that green-ness and cloudiness are two separate problems.... and once you fix the green-ness there won't be any more cloudiness happening so your filter will be able to start getting rid of it ;)

How many $ do you spend on your pool in a year?

The only parts of your post that seemed off to me were: 1. the (possibly tongue-in-cheek) question " Chime in here people, have you thought about just getting that bag of shock for $5 and throw it into the pool and be done with it ", implying that a $5 bag of shock would accomplish the same as...

    CYA and Vacuuming

In front of a return jet it usually takes a couple of days to dissolve. Putting it in the skimmer takes longer IIRC. The other good thing about hanging it from a stick in front of a return jet is that it doesn't interfere with anything you want to do with the pool, unless you poke your eye with...

So frustrated and getting more poor!

What levels do your strips measure, eg do they measure CYA aka stabilizer ?

That is an awesome .gif. Thanks for posting it !! EDIT -- found myself sitting and staring at it. I really need a pool.

    Swamp pool

Seems like you're doing everything right with the calculations, so if your FC level is going higher than expected that usually means your pool doesn't hold quite as many gallons as you think. My impression is that above ground pool capacity ratings are for when you fill them enough that the...

    Swamp pool

Sounds good. I confirmed that 393 oz is correct, so maybe the bleach wasn't evenly mixed yet. Are you running the pump continuously now ? The fact you only lost 1.5 ppm of FC overnight is a good sign. Thanks for checking the packet... looks like the following link, right ...

TF-100 Regents $ and replacement schedule?

The TF-100 reagent quantities are sized (as much as possible) so you run out of them all at roughly the same time -- vs the Taylor kits which have the same amount of each reagent**. ** although I recently discovered that the K-2006 includes two bottles of CYA reagent R-0013 so it's not as bad...

    Amount of bleach

It's going to depend a bit on amount of sun vs shade your pool gets, CYA levels etc, but the norm seems to be 2-4 ppm of FC per day. For a 14,000 gallon pool and 8.25% bleach that would be somewhere around 1/2 gallon per day (range would be ~40-80 oz per day).

    Pool is eating Chlorine INSTANTLY!!!!!

Once the ammonia is out of the way, I imagine the pool should behave "normally". The remaining cloudiness/algae doesn't sound too bad so getting it all killed by the weekend seems possible, but I guess at that point it's going to depend on how effective the filter is. Maybe take the pH a bit...

    Swamp pool

Can you grab the packets and confirm what was in them (sounds like sodium bromide ??). I know VERY little about bromine but AFAIK you just *might* need to do something different if you have bromine in there. Don't worry, but let's check just in case. In general though the numbers look good and...

proper use of chlorine and non-chlorine shock to extend life of water

Guessing the oxidizing shock is MPS ? AFAIK it will definitely offload *some* of the work bleach would otherwise have to do (it oxidizes but doesn't sanitize, chlorine does both), but when I looked at local prices MPS seemed to be more expensive than bleach for the same result. That's how we...

    phosphate levels

Be careful with their definition of "fine" for chlorine level. It's probably fair to summarize industry pool maintenance practices as "discount the effect of CYA, maintain a chlorine level that is too low for typical CYA levels, then shock weekly, use algaecide and use phosphate reducers to make...

How many $ do you spend on your pool in a year?

Good point -- the cost of de-swamping should really be charged to the previous pool maintenance methodology. The idea of TFPC is to provide a sustainable maintenance method (esp. managing CYA levels) that does NOT lead to periodic turning-into-a-swamp excitement.

How many $ do you spend on your pool in a year?

A very approximate pattern (for a serious algae problem) seems to be 2 gallons of 6% or 8.25% bleach (or the equivalent in $5 bags of shock) per 1000 gallons of pool, or 120-150 ppm FC. Buying 124 ppm of FC for a 20,000 gallon pool locally (at Canadian Tire) costs $78 for granular shock (2x7kg...

I opened my pool for the first time in 2years

The TF-100 XL is more like the larger K-2006C in terms of the important reagent quantities so I would say yes, better deal : http://www.amazon.com/Taylor-Service-Complete-Water-K-2006C/dp/B0002IXIJ0/ref=pd_sim_sbs_sg_2?ie=UTF8&refRID=0ZQ7HE20DDTCDVN1WMWA...

Do Spa covers reduce or elimate the need for Cyanuric Acid (CYA)?

Yeah, I would say "reduce" not "eliminate". I aim for 20-30 (although I got that from some of chem geek's really old posts and seems like it might be time to reconsider ;)) but end up having to run at 30 anyways since that's the lowest level I can reliably test for.

Need a testing kit. Test strips are not recommended?

I find the AquaChek 4-in-1 strips are OK for very rough FC tests (mostly making sure my FC didn't go away for some reason) but only up to ~5ppm which makes them useless for anything but very low levels of CYA (my tub is covered so CYA level of 20-30 is fine). If you ever have to SLAM or want to...

How many $ do you spend on your pool in a year?

Yeah, I think that's the big disconnect here. I read about people dropping 20 bags of shock into a swamp and still not clearing it. Big pools with big algae need big chlorine. That said, solid chlorine does tend to be a bit cheaper for an equivalent amount of chlorine -- locally trichlor pucks...
