I might have to repair my own gunite pool

So gunite refers to the method of application rather than the material? What is the actual material? Hydraulic cement? I live in Toronto. There are literally two companies doing gunite repairs and there are a *lot* of pools. I had my repair booked for last fall, got delayed to this spring. Now...

I might have to repair my own gunite pool

I have a gunite pool and spillover spa. Two years ago, I had a big chunk of gunite fall off the stairs in the spa. I’ve been trying since then to get someone to fix it. With the pool boom in my area, all the pool contractors are doing big jobs and are not interested in my small repair. So I...

How hard is it to fix crumbling plaster myself?

It's basically damage from the ice that forms in the spa. I live in Canada. I guess I'll just keep calling/begging a company to do this. The demand for pools here is insane. A friend of mine had a fire in his equipment shed that destroyed all the pool equipment and melted his safety cover and...

How hard is it to fix crumbling plaster myself?

I have a 10’ diameter, spillover spa made of gunite and plaster. A big chunk of plaster fell off the pool last winter and it was impossible to hire a reputable pool plasterer. I ended up finding someone on Craigslist and he did an awful job. Cosmetically it was ugly but I was willing to live...

Drop in replacement for Jandy Truclear?

You were correct. It took me a long time to get through but once I did, Jandy support was very helpful. They are shipping a warranty replacement cell immediately. Hopefully, this one holds up better.

Drop in replacement for Jandy Truclear?

My two year old Jandy Truclear has the leaking top glass problem. When I googled it, I couldn't believe how many hits I got on "Jandy Truclear top glass leaking". There must be a dozen threads on TFP alone. I wish I had know when I bought this thing. I'm told that I might not have warranty...

When do you add stabilizer during SLAM opening?

After adjusting ph, should I add stabilizer until I get a reading of 30-40 and then SLAM? Or do I SLAM first and then he the CYA levels to recommended number?

Opening my spill over spa ahead of my pool. How do I sanitize?

If there’s no water being added to the tub, it stops spilling over.

Opening my spill over spa ahead of my pool. How do I sanitize?

I can shut off two valves to close off the intake and outflow pipes to the pool. I don’t want to take the cover off the pool because we have massive maple trees in the backyard that drop millions of keys in the late spring. I usually wait until this is over before opening the pool. I burned...

Opening my spill over spa ahead of my pool. How do I sanitize?

I have a spillover spa attached to my pool and while it’s a little early to open the pool, I thought I would open the spa now. It’s the first time I’ve done this in stages so I hope my newbie question is okay. I have a salt water chlorinator but since the water temp (when the spa is not...

    Wooden spa seating

Since we have winter here, I was thinking of making them removable. Epoxy some threaded inserts into the spa and attach that way. I looked at teak and wow, it's pricey as you know. I was thinking of white cedar which is what I think they use in Japanese spas.

    Wooden spa seating

We have a gunite finished spa and I thought about adding wooden slats to the seating platform for comfort and to add a bit of a Japanese onsen look to it. I'm not sure how wood would hold up to a salt water pool but when you visit a Japanese onsen (bath house), they use wood liberally...

    Pentair Superflo VS remote off?

I'm referring to the remote operation using the 5v signals. You're right, it's not digital.

    Pentair Superflo VS remote off?

I'm wondering if there is a way to turn my pump off using the digital controls? I'm using a DIY controller but I'm pretty sure the Pentair Easytouch has a remote off function. I'm wondering how it's enabled. BTW, it would be fine to just shut down the pump to 0 flow and hold there. I don't need...

Hayward GVA-24 Wiring - why can't I double lug two actuators?

The black wires can be double lugged for sure since they are common. But the Jandy manual says not to double lug the two leg wires. The reason I ask is that after powering up in double lugged configuration, one of the actuators works, the other doesn't. Going back to individually lugged and...

Hayward GVA-24 Wiring - why can't I double lug two actuators?

I can't seem to find any wiring information on the GVA-24 but I found one for a Jandy. It's says "Do not double lug the JVA switch leg wires (red and white wires)." I have two actuators and I tried double lugging before I read the Jandy manual (both red wires together, both white wires...

Big chunk of fell of plaster/gunite fell off

Is this a frequent occurrence? Does it indicate faulty construction or is it just normal wear and tear?

Big chunk of fell of plaster/gunite fell off

That's original plaster from 15 years ago. It's never been replasterered. Is that something you're supposed to do? That part of the plaster that broke off was under the winter level of water. I'll give it a tap to check out the surrounding area. I don't mind if a patch doesn't match. It's...

Big chunk of fell of plaster/gunite fell off

Forgive me if I'm using the wrong terminology but over the winter, a chunk of the gunite layer on my spillover pool fell off. You can see it laying there under the gap. Any advice on how to repair? I was thinking of using epoxy to re-attach the broken off pieces and then grouting any remaining...

TF100 or something else for salt water?

Is there a test kit for a salt water pool other than the TF100? If not, what's the recommended method for testing salt concern? I had some test strips in the past but I found them inaccurate.

Automation control box - tell me if this is a good idea

Right now, all the pool automation relays are contained in a metal box at the back of my property. It's starting to rust pretty badly and I find it's in an inconvenient location so I'm thinking of moving everything into my shed. Also, the metal box shields the WiFi relays so I don't get a...

Removable wire connectors for Goldline 24v valve actuators?

Not mine. When I opened one up this summer because it failed, it was full of rusty water. I drained it, let it dry and it worked fine. But I'd like to avoid the problem next year. Also, that capacitor in my hand came completely disconnected. Anyone know what it does? The actuator works without it.

Removable wire connectors for Goldline 24v valve actuators?

This winter, I'd like to completely remove my valve actuators and store them in a dry place. Does anyone have their actuators wired up with removable connectors? Is there any reason something like below wouldn't work? Anyone know the gauge of the wires? I'm thinking 24 guage?

Trying to figure out my X10 pool automation

As suggested on the Shelly Support Facebook page, I installed a switch between the SW and L terminals. It works but.... in reverse. In other words, if the switch is off, the relay closes. If the switch is on, the relay opens. This is a head scratcher. I have no explanation for this. Any ideas? \
