    New Pump Recommendations?

I think that sounds pretty good! Controlling the lights would be awesome. They're on a rocker switch and I really don't like the method of changing colors, so this is cool 🤘🤘 I appreciate everyone's help!

    New Pump Recommendations?

Ideally, I'd like to have as little interaction as possible, so automation sounds like a feature I'd like. No spa.

I briefly looked at the IntelliFlo3. Thanks for asking others about their recommendations!

    New Pump Recommendations?

My Hayward variable speed has died. A friend's father can get me a new pump at wholesale. What should I be looking at? 17,000 to 18,000 gallons; "kidney bean" Pentair SWG DE filter Southern California

    New Solar Cover

Hey @Watershow, no I don't have a heater, but really want one. From what I see on TFP it's recommended to have a solar cover along with your heater. The cover will help keep the heat in, so less gas is used to heat the pool. Also, you lose less water to evaporation. All around I think a solar...

    New Solar Cover

Almost too well!!! We had a couple of 105F days a couple weeks ago. The pool hit 98F... I did laps two nights ago and it was 92F when I got out at Midnight :) My CYA is dropping though and I noticed my chlorine is on the low side :( Working on that now, but otherwise it's been awesome!

How much should a solar cover... cover?

That's crazy! Since we put pavers and artificial turf in the backyard we haven't had them back there. A decent sized area in my front yard is all torn up though 😡

How much should a solar cover... cover?

That's about what I did last time and what I'll try again. Glad to know we aren't the only ones with gophers... Do they fall in and drown? I don't like killing rodents just because; however, I'm sick and tired of them! My pool's a "kidney bean" shape so no matter what I have to buy oversized...

How much should a solar cover... cover?

Thanks @Donldson! My last cover was probably 95% coverage and I never had any issues. It was definitely something I was thinking about today when I was spreading out my new cover so it seemed appropriate to ask :)

How much should a solar cover... cover?

Just looked at the link that @rj2222 posted for a "Space Age Solar Cover." Is this answer to the comment on that page correct? About 80%? "should the cover just lay on top of the water or go over the edge of the pool? A shopper on May 18, 2020 BEST ANSWER: It should just lay on top of the...

    New Solar Cover

Hey Mike, I'll let my neighbor behind me know about a potential gift! Last night was insane! I went to bed, laid down, and then jumped up to look out the window. We get wind coming off of the hills by Porter Ranch. Yeah, our climates should be pretty close. The west end of the Valley is by...

    New Solar Cover

I had my last solar cover 3 years ago. I loved it, until it started to fall apart and leave little plastic "pucks" in the water. Today I received a new one and I'm pretty excited to get some warmth in the pool so I can swim! Pool was 73° when I put it on. Can't wait to see how well it works. Of...

    Low CH, High pH

Haha, sorry, I misread valve as value... Thanks for you patience with me Richard!!! I took a picture of the waterline and I'll compare throughout the week.

    Low CH, High pH

Alright, I'll shut off the autofill. Just to be clear, "find the value" means the water level, not the CH reading?
  20. fatboy1271

    Low CH, High pH

I don't use softened water. I did take a test from the reservoir of water in the autofill and got 100 CH, 4 drops. I did a quick search and found this, but I don't know the accuracy of this site: "The average water hardness for California residents is 100-300 PPM. The state's most populous city...

    Low CH, High pH

Thanks @mknauss and @Richard320! I've done a lot to my water over the last week, so it makes sense that many things can be effected. I have the magnetic speedstir, so I feel like it mixes pretty well. I do have an autofill. I'm sure this is obvious, but I take it I just test from the little...

Will this work as an aerator?

I took 4 shorter pieces of PVC, drilled 4 holes in a line, and capped one end on each side. I attached that to a longer piece with a T on the end. Two of my returns I made from PVC, so I just jam my aerators into the returns and it's that simple! Video of it in action: New video by Patrick Coy

    Low CH, High pH

This morning's test: FC = 8 pH = At least 8.4 CH = 125 TA = 80, yesterday it was 70 CYA = Will measure later today Salt = Was 3600 yesterday Over the course of the week I added 2 to 3 gallons of liquid chlorine everyday, due to the fact that I had zero CYA. I also dropped my pH and aerated to...

    Start Salt Now?

I was just reading the Read This First page and it calls for 3200 to 3400. Hopefully I'm in that range but I'm glad for the confirmation of just use a full bag.

    Start Salt Now?

I asked because I too don't want to have an open bag. Knowing me, I'll dump it all over my shed instead of in the pool! Three or four years ago when I got my first SWG I just dumped in the recommended amount of salt. Of course, that was way too much, but it seemed to be fine.

    Start Salt Now?

The plan today is to replace the IC40 with the new one I got. When I take a salt reading is it a little better to be above or below my target? Basically, if it calls for 28lbs of salt to be added do I try to add 28lbs out of a 40lb bag or can I leave it short the 28lbs or can I add the extra 12lbs?

    Pool Heater Gas Line Cost

That seems crazy! I'm in Southern California where everything is way over priced and I got a "rough" quote of $4000 for a gas line. It is not a straight shot and it's maybe 75 feet. You're making me think I may have missed a good opportunity...

    Recommended Return Jets?

I just watched a video on the Infusion V-Fitting Venturi Eyeball Pool Inlet Return Jet. Looks cool and the reviews are great. This leads me to another question: Which way should the jets be facing? I have three jets so should one be up and two down, two up and one down, all down...?

    Recommended Return Jets?

I have three jets in my pool. Two of them I made from PVC and one I purchased. The ones I made work great, but I was wondering if there's a recommend jet? I guess I'm trying to spend money I really don't need to spend  Like this: Infusion Threaded Inlet V-Fitting - White. It claims...

    Start Salt Now?

Good to know. I'll have to tell Mom about the princess party. We have a 14 month old daughter who never got to have her 1st birthday party  Mom spent so much time and money on it. Maybe she can have a dual 1st and 2nd party, if she can have friends over in 10 months.
