Hot Springs hot tub, chlorine level will not come down

No CYA, I haven't used dichlor in months because of the SWG. When testing the other day I got a single drop on my new hoodie and it left a bleach spot :( This whole fiasco started right as the ice/snow started so yesterday was the first day in over a week I could really get to it. I had...

I will try that, thanks. The freak snowstorm that just came through prevented me from opening it.

Hot Springs hot tub, chlorine level will not come down

I have a Hot Springs hot tub that I've had for about 8 months. It has the freshwater salt system, which has been GREAT so far. It maintains CL without me doing anything. Unfortunately I ignored it for a while and the FC level went through the roof. It was 30+ last week. Turned the salt...

    Powered up and first purge

Brand new tub. 2020 Hot Spring Limelight Flash. It was a floor model, But it was dry. I know that they do the test at the factory to check for leaks and what not, so I decided to purge the first fill. Quite a bit of brown gunk came out and accumulated on the sides. Ahh-some is a great product...

CYA or no CYA in spa with SWG?

Thanks for the replies! That is especially helpful, thanks @Backcountryski - That sounds like exactly what I'll need to do.

CYA or no CYA in spa with SWG?

I'm getting a Hot Spring Spa with the built in SWG. They call it the Freshwater Salt System. They don't talk a lot about CYA in the Salt System Owner's Manual, other than to say that you should try to avoid CYA (Chlorine) lock. I did find the Dealer's FAQ that says the preferred level of CYA...

Hot Tub SWG Output level in PoolMath app

I'm doing this too and confused by math (happens a lot). The Salt System says it can produce a maximum of 17 grams of FC a day. There are 453 grams in a pound, so 17 is 3.74 percent. 3.74 percent of a pound would be 0.0374 ? Or is it .374? My brain hurts haha!

    Just bought a hot tub

Question about CH: The Hot Springs Salt System manual says to target 50 ppm CH. The TFP "How to use chlorine in a spa" article says to target 130 - 150 ppm CH. My fill water is around 60 ppm CH. Should I just leave it be?

    Just bought a hot tub

Thanks! I just ordered the 6 oz from Amazon. How is the shelf life of AhhSome? Should I try to cancel and get the smaller container? Edit: tub is 360 gallons so the 2oz container would give me about 3.5 purges.

    Just bought a hot tub

Bought a Hot Spring Limelight Flash yesterday. Haven't had a tub in years and we are excited! Any tips for a newbie? I've read places that a deep clean using Ahh-Some is needed on a new tub is needed. Should I do that? That stuff is expensive at $53 for 6 oz. The tub has a SWG, but will be...

    Testing for iron at home

I’ll be testing the fill water, which is city water. I'll be testing the fill water, city water. I've had a little staining in the past 6 years but this year it's insane. I suspect the iron came from the salt the pool company used, but I need to test the fill water to be sure.

    Testing for iron at home

I need to test my fill water and don't trust the local pool store. I've read here many times that home iron tests are expensive, but when I search for them online I get a wide range of prices. Does anyone know of a reliable home iron test for less than $100? I'm looking at buying this one, any...

    Can’t get stabilizer up

    1) cya takes a while to register, especially if you add it to the skimmer (don't do that). Put it in a sock and hang it in front of a return. Use pool math to determine the correct amount 2) don't use test strips. Get a good test kit pronto! Taylor K-2006 or TF-100

    Removing metal

This morning the water is very green and the sides are a nice tan color. :( I'm draining water today. I suspect the iron came from the salt that the pool company put in. There might be trace amounts in my fill water, but it had to have come from the salt.

    Removing metal

In a matter of 3 hours today the pool turned back to a light green and the stains are back on the sides. Not too bad but they're back. Guess I need more sequestrant. Polfil back in the skimmer.

Small levels of CC - Also quick q on FAS-DPD test

As far as I know, when the color goes from red/pink to clear is when you record the number. Whatever happens to the sample after that is irrelevant. If yours went clear after 1 or 2 drops, your FC is too low. Do you have a SWG? P.S. - put the info about your pool in your signature so it's...

    Removing metal

For future readers of this thread: After bringing up FC to five and watching the pool turn into green kool-aid, I put polyfil in the skimmer and just maintained the FC as if nothing was amiss. After a couple days the water was clear but the stains on the fiberglass were horrendous. I let FC...

First time hot tub buyer trying to decide on witch to get

I'm looking to get a hot tub soon too. The last time I bought one, I bought one that was way too big. This time I'll go smaller, but sticking with 220. Which "bells and whistles" to get is another part of it, what is important to you? Color changing LED lights? Waterfalls, stereos built in, etc.

Thanks, I really appreciate your help. I brought FC up to 5 (CYA is showing 70 now) and the water went from blue to green in 30 minutes. I've never seen this before so I'm just a little startled. The polyfil in the basket is stark white while all the plastic in the skimmer is brown. You...

    Removing metal

The reason I ask that is because where the jets return water in the pool, you can see brown stains where the water comes out and hits the fiberglass. I'm sorry if I'm posting too much.
