Looking to buy a test kit, need advice...

I used the Taylor kit for years. It’s a great kit. Over the years I added a salt kit and a stirrer. This year I couldn’t find it (who knows where in the house it is). I ordered the TF Pro Salt and I LOVE the cool box it comes in. My husband was always complaining that test bottles were on the...

Just got my test kit...water not crystal clear

You don’t even run the OCLT until you have crystal clear water and you have CC of 0.5 or less.

    Help with balance

Just checking to make sure you didn’t buy Clorox brand. Most of that has additives we don’t want in our pools. Color safe, splashless, scented, etc…stuff we don’t want. Walmart has just plain chlorine. The stuff in the Pool Aisle is good.

    Help with balance

I think the problem is that you probably have a typo in your results in the first post. It says TA 119. Guessing you meant 110. Sorry you didn't get a helpful response. Re: Your CYA of 54, did you interpolate between 50 & 60? If so, your CYA is 60. The results increase exponentially, so...

I’m sure your wife can learn how to do the testing. It’s fun.

Trying to get a handle on my test kit - question about total chlorine

This that is correct, if you don’t have a saltwater generator. If you have an SWG you’ll want your CYA level to be around 80. Also, I have come to understand that people in Arizona tend to need their CYA higher than those of us who live in New England, because of the additional sunshine. I’ll...

    Pretty sure I need a new O-Ring

Thanks. Yes, I've lubricated the old one twice.

    Pretty sure I need a new O-Ring

I've got a suction side link. Pouring water indicates air is being sucked in around the top of the pump basket housing. I'm assuming I just need a new o-ring. I know it could be something else, but that's an easy and cheap fix to try first. The first hardware store I tried didn't have them...

Opening my pool and want to do it real nice this time

I do not do anything with my pool once it's closed until it is opened in April/May. This year we're closing Oct 27. When I open I have to SLAM for about 5 days, but that's less work for me than going out there in the cold, ice, and snow. I'm not going to shovel 20+ inches of snow off my mesh...

Opening my pool and want to do it real nice this time

Just for a point of reference, I'm quite a bit north of you and I'm closing 10/9. We have someone close for us too because we're not interested in doing the work. You don't need to close when everyone else is if your pool company has the later appt available.

    Hello from Northern California

These are Trichlor and will raise your CYA.

    Hello from Northern California

If they are dichlor or trichlor tabs, they will raise your CYA and yours is already kind of high. If they are CalHypo tabs, it would be ok to use them up, but don't use them forever. If you post a pic of the ingredients list, we can tell you which kind they are.

    Hello from Northern California

So, your chlorine is zero. Can you post the rest of your test results? Have you added any chlorine since you moved in? Is your water turning green?

Question about salt, muriatic acid, & CH test

You'll never get everything to match unless its a broken clock is right twice a day situation. Don't make it a goal to match a flawed system. Good for you for not buying the products.

I’m going to suggest that you remove your full name from your profile as you are discussing when you‘ll be out of town and your general location is listed too. I believe Trouble Free Pooler are a trustworthy bunch, but this site is open to the public.

    Pool newby

If your pool has any area close to it that is lower than the pool, you can do what I do when I have too much water due to rain. I take the vacuum hose and put one end in front of a return and the other end down the hill. Hold the hose over the return until water comes out the other end. That...

    Chlorine Level Help

This is incorrect because TC (total chlorine) is FC (Free Chlorine) + CC (Combined chlorine) so FC can't be more than TC. Is your TC actually your CC or are the TC and FC reversed?

    TA at 40

Thanks. The only thing I ever add that is acidic is CYA, which is usually only about twice a year, so I will be careful around those adds.

    TA at 40

Every year when I open the pool the TA is at 40. I raise it to 50 with baking soda because recommendation here is min TA of 50. But, then once the TA is 50, the pH starts to inch up. Is there really a reason to have the TA at least 50 or is 40 ok since my pH seems more stable there? Right...

    Pool Water Not Holding Chlorine

I think it's likely you have some algae brewing bc you had cloudy water very recently. The Overnight Chlorine Loss Test will give you the answer to that. BUT....You have guests coming in just a few days. If you test your chlorine every day, add Chlorine to always keep your Free Chlorine at...

How to add chlorine after AA treatment

By the pic, that water looks cloudy, implying algae. Am I right that it's cloudy. Have you ordered a TF-100 or a Taylor 2006-c test kit? Without one of those 2 test kits, we aren't going to be able to guide you because we won't have the info needed.
