Just for a point of reference, I'm quite a bit north of you and I'm closing 10/9. We have someone close for us too because we're not interested in doing the work. You don't need to close when everyone else is if your pool company has the later appt available.

These are Trichlor and will raise your CYA.

If they are dichlor or trichlor tabs, they will raise your CYA and yours is already kind of high. If they are CalHypo tabs, it would be ok to use them up, but don't use them forever. If you post a pic of the ingredients list, we can tell you which kind they are.

This is incorrect because TC (total chlorine) is FC (Free Chlorine) + CC (Combined chlorine) so FC can't be more than TC. Is your TC actually your CC or are the TC and FC reversed?

Thanks. The only thing I ever add that is acidic is CYA, which is usually only about twice a year, so I will be careful around those adds.

Every year when I open the pool the TA is at 40. I raise it to 50 with baking soda because recommendation here is min TA of 50. But, then once the TA is 50, the pH starts to inch up. Is there really a reason to have the TA at least 50 or is 40 ok since my pH seems more stable there? Right...

By the pic, that water looks cloudy, implying algae. Am I right that it's cloudy. Have you ordered a TF-100 or a Taylor 2006-c test kit? Without one of those 2 test kits, we aren't going to be able to guide you because we won't have the info needed.
