    Be careful with pucks

We went away for 10 days so I left the pool running with a load of pucks in the chlorinator. I set it to about the middle point and hoped for the best. On our return the pucks were about 3/4 gone and the pool had algae. CYA had risen to almost 60 from my usual 40. The pucks really drove up my...

Which Dolphin? My head is spinning

If you have a main drain be wary of any cleaner without the third middle brush. Drain hangups are a show stopper. Cord swivel is nice as well. These features cost more but are worth the money imho.

What do you do with your robot?

I'm in year four with my M4 and I've always stored it outside on the caddy. When it rains, it gets wet and I've never had a problem. Not recommending it but it hasn't affected mine. I did not even know until recently that it wasn't supposed to be left outside as it certainly looks like it's made...

Why so much hate on pool store's water test?

Re: Why so much hate on pool store's water test? We don't have Leslie's up here but the issues are the same with our pool stores. The real problem I see is not so much with the accuracy of the pool store test results (which are pretty much in agreement with mine most of the time) but with the...

    Hot tub with chlorine

Just a short post to say my hot tub is absolutely pristine (and has been for a couple of years) as a result of following the instructions in the sticky post on using Chlorine in your Spa. I was about ready to turf the hot tub because the water was never right. I was using bromine tabs in a...

    I can't keep cya up!

You said your water was 94 degrees. Is that what you meant? Good grief. I know it's warm in Georgia this time of year but still, with all the rain you've been having, that's really warm for a pool (I assume you aren't heating it). I don't know how much the temperature is contributing to your...

Dolphin Supreme M Series Owner’s Club

I have an M4. It's been great. It goes everywhere, deep end, shallow end, walls, waterline. Even climbs the stairs trying to escape and it never gets hung up on the drain because it has that important centre brush. And it has the cord swivel to prevent tangling. Don't let anyone tell you these...

Cheapest Dolphin with tangle free chord and programable

Higher end Dolphin models used to include a cord swivel, centre brush and programmability (maybe they still do.) My M4 has all three. I wouldn't give up the swivel or the centre brush as these are very important features. Cord tangling is annoying and persistent drain hangups can completely...

Cannot extend floats on my Dolphin M4

Following up here. It was grit like you said. A couple of sharp taps with a rubber mallet was all it took and we're back in business. Thanks for the tip.

    Dolphin Premier M5 - 4th Season Refurb

Very informative thread. I replaced the climbing rings on my M4 last year as they were obviously worn out. Same symptoms as you had - wouldn't climb the vertical walls and was sliding and skidding on the sloped portions of the pool. Didn't think to replace the tracks but will check this out...

Cannot extend floats on my Dolphin M4

I have a Dolphin M4 Supreme robot which works very well. It's in its 4th season. Today I tried to extend the floats on the cleaner arms as they are in the fully retracted position but I can't move them. Has anyone else had this problem? I can't find a release button or lock anywhere on the arms...

Talk me into the best robotic cleaner

I have found no use for the programmed feature on my Dolphin. The thing works so well that the filters are usually clogged after one cycle and the instructions say not to leave the cleaner in the pool when not in use anyway. Makes no sense. However, don't dismiss the cord swivel. It's VERY...

From Bromine to chlorine like I use in the pool

I used bromine tabs in my tub for years and the water was never right. Always cloudy and sometimes smelled bad. MPS tub shock was expensive and ineffective. I discovered this site and switched to the dichlor/chlorine method described in the thread above. Works like magic. Don't even think about...

    Olympic Pool

Just heard they're going to drain it and start over. A million gallons of water. I wonder how long that's going to take.

The pool had insufficient chlorine so they added hydrogen peroxide to get rid of whatever little was left? Perfect!

Anybody have their Intex AGP liner lose its color?

Well, I hope that number 1 isn't the culprit. My previous liner was almost white when I replaced it in the Spring after only a year of using chlorine. It was already faded when I switched to TFPC so I really can't be sure but I'm watching very carefully for signs of fading in my new liner. If it...

    Olympic Pool

"A drop in alkalinity" is responsible for the green. Hilarious. If they don't get a heavy dose of chlorine into all those pools, and fast, this is going to do nothing but get worse.

    Olympic Pool

The water is both murky and green, symptoms of a rampant algae bloom. Either incompetence or an equipment malfunction. I'm guessing the latter but we'll never know for sure. It's anyone's guess what putrid cocktail of chemicals they've dumped into it overnight to try to clear it up. Ghastly.

Trying to move away from Pucks for daily use...

Be very careful with the pucks. It is amazing how fast the CYA comes up when using them and pretty soon you have slimy walls and cloudy water. One 6Kg bucket of 3 inch pucks raised CYA on my new fill from 0 to 50 and, with the air and the water so warm, it only took about a month to empty the...

The M5 is even better than the M4 but comes at a premium. Probably worth the extra money though.

Talk me into the best robotic cleaner

I have the Dolphin M4 and I highly recommend it. It works as advertised with no fuss. Just put it in the pool and turn it on. When it's done, haul (and I mean haul) it out, clean the filters and put back on its caddy till next time. Piece of cake. After 2 years the white foam "donut" wheels on...

can above ground pool cleaner be used in ground pool?

... or the shallow end and stays there... Suction side cleaners are notorious for "patterning", circling the same corner of your pool and never going anywhere else and the skimmer doesn't work while the cleaner is in use. I've had a Kreepy Krawly and two Barracudas and they were all the same...

pools looks great, but my eyes hurt

Just reading through this for the first time now. I have the same problem and I got a pair of good googles and my problem was solved. We are not fish and our eyes are not meant to be under water for extended periods of time regardless of the pH and salinity of the water. Some people are more...

    2016 bleach prices

For pool owners in the Toronto area the best source I've found is Pioneer Pools with multiple outlets. They refill 10 litre jugs with 10.5% for Cad$5.99. There is a $10 deposit on the jugs but they last forever. That converts to about Cad$2.25/gallon (US$1.70). Good price and they sell a lot of...

    Reducing pH and TA

I don't know how much of the pH reducer to add but have you tried Home Depot for Muriatic acid? That's where I get mine. It's in the paint department.

How much bleach are you adding daily?

I add about 2 litres (about 65oz) of 10.5% liquid chlorine every day. Pool is 25,000 gallons.

    Dolphin Active 30i review

The cord swivel on the older M4 and M5 Dolphins is an outstanding feature which effectively prevents cord tangling. I assume they have eliminated it on the newer models to cut costs. Sounds like that may not have been such a hot idea as cord tangling is a major pita.
