Thanks for the tip! I just ordered some.

    Time to change the sand?

Thanks for the reply. Can I add the DE through the skimmer intakes, or do I need to open the top of the sand filter and pour it on top of the existing sand?

    Use of Floc

Thanks for the reply. Dumb question... when you say vac-to-waste do you mean vacuuming with the slide valve in backwash setting? I'm fine with doing PVC plumbing, however I'm not sure how the 3-way valve would be inserted into the inserted into the system.

    Use of Floc

Thanks for the reply, but unfortunately the plumbing on my pool doesn't allow for vac-to-waste, only vac-to-filter. I read a post that the floc will clog up the sand filter, and I just had it replaced two days ago. Not eager to incur the expense again.

    Use of Floc

Interesting. I just had the sand replaced, so is it OK to add DE? Can I add it through the skimmer intakes? Thanks.

    Use of Floc

Sorry to keep posting about this same problem, but I've never dealt with it before. The tile work in my pool resulted in suspended particulates in the water that are too small for the sand filter to remove. Due to the plumbing of my pool, using a flocculent is not possible. I've ordered...

    Use of Floc

Glad I read that. Now, I'm back to square one. Any suggestions? In 18 years of owning this pool, I've never had to deal with this.

    Use of Floc

After tile work in my pool, I'm left with floating particles that are too small for the sand filter to remove. The Dolphin pool bot is doing it's best, but the water is still cloudy. I've read about flocculents, and that sounds like a good plan. However, I've read that I need to run my pool on...

    Time to change the sand?

I ended up getting the sand replaced, but the water is still dirty. I'm afraid the suspended particles are too small for the Triton TR-100C filter. I've ordered extra-fine filters for my Dolphin pool bot, hoping that helps. Any other suggestions? Draining the pool is really not an option. I'm...

    Time to change the sand?

Thanks, Pat! I've never tried the deep cleaning, but I'll watch the video and give it a try.

    Time to change the sand?

My Triton sand filter is not doing as good a job as it used to. The sand hasn't been changed in 10 years. Just recently, I had to hand vacuum my pool when the Aquabot died. As I was vacuuming, I noticed cloudy water coming from the returns. I stopped, backwashed, and then started vacuuming...

Triton 2 sand filter leaking at bottom

My Triton 2 TR-60 filter is leaking at the bottom. I can's see the leak, as it is under the stand that the filter sits on. The unit is 20 years old. My pool guys says that it may be that the fiberglass has delaminated, causing it to leak under pressure. If that's the case, he recommends...

AO Smith Century pump not working

The Jandy Aquapure controller takes care of the SWG. I did find the problem with the 2hp pump. Organic debris had gotten through the basket and was wedged between the diffuser and impeller in the bronze seal. Looked like small needles from Yew bushes. I have recently had a large landscaping...

AO Smith Century pump not working

Thanks for the quick reply. You're correct, it is a StaRite pump. It's attached to a 2 hp AO Smith motor. I do not see anything leaking from the rear of the motor, but I didn't check to see if the impeller spins freely. I'll certainly give that a shot. Thanks.

AO Smith Century pump not working

My pool pump was working fine yesterday, but today it won't run. I discovered this by finding the breaker tripped. When I reset it, and tired to turn the motor on, it just hummed. I immediately turned it off. This pump is less than one year old, and the seals were replaced when I replaced the...

Leak in Triton II sand filter

The leak is coming from underneath, but the tank sits on a solid pedestal, so I can't see underneath. I can see for certain that it's not the drain plug, so I guess there is a hole. Are these repairable, or do I have to replace it?

Leak in Triton II sand filter

I have water leaking from the bottom of my sand filter. I have replaced the o-rings on the slide valve, and when I replaced the sand, the laterals looked fine. The leak was there before I replaced the sand. It is not leaking from the drain plug. Anything else to check before I have to open it...

Life span of a Jandy 1400 salt cell

I checked voltage and amperage, as well as resistance in the power cable, and all looked fine. I guess it's curtains for the old cell. Thanks for the help.

Thanks for all the advise, James. I'm headed out to the pool house with my multi-meter.

Life span of a Jandy 1400 salt cell

What about checking the voltage and amps going to the cell. Is that a reasonable thing to try? Does anyone know what readings I should be looking for?

Life span of a Jandy 1400 salt cell

The salinity was tested with a Taylor drop kit. It showed 3000 (15 drops of reagent). The controller is showing 3.0. I didn't see any corrosion on either the plugs or prongs. I didn't see any scaling in the cell, but I cleaned it with a muriatic acid solution, anyway.

Life span of a Jandy 1400 salt cell

I had to add liquid sanitizer to get any CL readings, at all. The overnight test didn't show any drop. Cyanuric acid level is at 70. The only error code I got was 120, which the manual says is low cell voltage.

Life span of a Jandy 1400 salt cell

What is the typical life span of a Jandy 1400 salt cell? Mine is 5 years old. I'm not seeing sanitizer being produced, even set at 100%. I tried cleaning it with muriatic acid, but that didn't fix it. I did briefly see a low voltage fault code on the controller, but it's no longer showing that...

    Jandy RS relays

While reinstalling my pump, I accidentally shorted the power connections. The breaker in the box tripped, but I apparently also tripped the relay. It's a Jandy 6581 3-hp. I replaced it with a spare, and everything now runs fine. My question is, can I reset the old relay, or is it junk? I noticed...

Jandy RS One-Touch Control Panel problems

My Jandy RS One-Touch control panel as a bad screen. It is an older model, PCB 7750D, Assy 7751, rev. E 18/04. There are plenty of new control panels for sale, but since they are a newer build, I don't know if they will work with my 14 year old Jandy main panel. Anyone familiar with the...

    Zinc vs Brass pipe plugs

Yes, this was the plug that was installed in the new heater when it arrived. Pentair tech support couldn't explain the galvanized steel plug, but admitted that that is what was installed 3+ years ago, when the unit was manufactured. Now they spec a zinc plug. Hmmm. Perhaps they realized they had...

Are you using an anode in your salt pool?

Interestingly, the guy at Pool Tools said exactly the same things regarding 1) location & orientation of the unit, 2) bonding, 3) cleaning the anode. Since our pool season here in Michigan is relatively short, he suggested cleaning the plug at the beginning of each season, before the system is...

Are you using an anode in your salt pool?

While keeping the chemistry nailed is obviously important, the research I've been doing the last couple of days leads me to believe that good chemistry alone is not enough. My failed heater plug is evidence. My pH has never been lower than 7.5, and I take a water sample to a lab at the start of...
