Waterline Tile Repair on edge of Pebble Finish

Hi all - I've had two waterline tiles break off right by my pool's beach entry. My question is about removing the two tile fragments that butt up against the pebble bottom of the beach entry. Can I just gently chip those tiles off without damaging the pebble finish? Is the pebble finish adhered...

Trouble getting seal plate back into Northstar Pump

Hi all - I am replacing my Hayward pump motor with a V-Green EVO variable speed motor. I got this from inyopools and they sent new o-rings along with the motor. I've gotten everything re-assembled to the point where I have to insert the diffuser+impeller back in and the seal plate flush with...

    Replacing rusted exterior junction box

Hi all - I'm replacing one of my niche lights and as I'm doing that am going ahead and replacing the junction boxes which have rusted out. Here are pics of my situation. The left-most conduit (PVC) runs back to the pool equipment. The middle conduit (copper?) is the pool light, and the...

Crack in PVC Elbow Partially in Gunite - Suggestions for Repair?

Hi all - After about a day's worth of digging, I finally found the source of a plumbing leak I've been suspecting for about a month. Check out the attached pics. This 3/4" pipe goes to our weeping wall, one of two that feed the water feature. The problem is, the crack is in a 90* elbow that...

    Replacing Hayward T-Cell-15 Turbo Cell

Hi all - It's about time to get pools in shape here in the North Texas area! Over the last couple years, my Hayward Turbo Cell has been slowly degrading, reading less and less salt in the water - compared to readings from a Taylor Saltwater Test Kit (2200 via the cell and 3000 via the Taylor...

Aqualogic PS8 Not Turning Pump On

Hi all - The filter was running normally per my filter schedule today, but wanted to go for a swim tonight after the pump had already turned off for the day, so I turned it on manually. No dice. The valve actuators are moving normally, and all LEDs and lights are working normally as well. I...

Hayward Pool Heater has flame coming out of the top vent!

Hi all - Just getting the pool in shape for the swimming season and decided to fire up the heater. It is a Hayward H400 Natural Gas heater, going on 4 years old. The heater is controlled by an Aqualogic PS-8. The heater appears to fire up just fine (blower motor comes on first, followed by...

Running SWG Pool with High (8.2) pH

Hi all - our pool is going into its second full summer. It is ~11k gallons, IG with minipebble finish, and SWG. Since the very beginning, I've had to put put acid in (~32 oz every week) to maintain the pH and have just accepted this as standard for my pool. Well, last weekend I had the idea of...

How low do you set your SWG during the winter?

For those that don't close their pools for the winter, what do you set your SWG to for the winter? I had my output setting at 30% and found my FC to be at 8.5. I normally like to keep it around 4-5ppm. I just turned it down to 5% and will see where it stabilizes at.

Leaky Strainer Cover on Northstar Pump

Hi all - I cleaned out the strainer of my Northstar pump yesterday, lubed the O-ring and replaced the cover. Now, water leaks out of the cover when the pump is turned off. I guess the seal on the cover isn't enough to hold the back pressure when the impeller stops. The pump was perfectly fine...

Cost of Bleach versus Chlorine Tablets

Hi all - I have a SWG and have never owned a straight chlorine pool so am clueless as to the true costs of using bleach versus chlorine tablets. I was talking to a friend that uses tablets about BBB when I realized I really didn't know enough to try and talk them into switching to BBB! :-) So...

Having doubts about my pH testing!

Hi all - long time Pool Solutions member, but first time TFP poster (longtime lurker). I've had my IG 11K Salt pool since August of 2006 and have been testing my water daily (at least pH and Chlorine) since startup with a Taylor K-2005 test kit. I've noticed over the last 2-3 months that my pH...
