Putting chlorine pucks in skimmer baskets.

As many have said, the inline chlorinator may not get much use if you follow the suggestions here. That being said, it does come in handy if you are away for a few days or more to keep chlorine up and the pool clean. Just be aware of what the pucks do and how quickly the CYA levels can climb...

    Fiberglass pool stains

I have had good luck using vitamin C tablets on these stains. I get the same ones each spring, usually from a worm or leaf that got under the cover, and fell to the bottom during the winter. With a little elbow grease, these stains seem to come up.

    What's your current pool temp?

My pool hit a record 94 degrees this week, it was too warm! Though, in about 4 months, it will be frozen again, so I better enjoy it....

    EZ-Pool

I was given EZ Pool by my pool builder when it was first completed. It does make it sound like it makes pool care easy, but there is no need for it at all. I switched off of it after a few months, as soon as I found this website. If you read through pool school, they walk you through...

Fiberglass Pool / Chalky residue / How to filter

Thank you ! I will have to run the calcium test, i don't run that one as often as the others. It is definitely not hard, and wipes off very easily. I haven't had to slam at all since i found this site. Maybe i will just have to be patient, which is not my specialty!!! Thanks!

Fiberglass Pool / Chalky residue / How to filter

Hi, I have searched the forum and read similar articles, but haven't found the answer to this. I noticed the other day that there was a chalky residue the sides of my white fiberglass pool. When you rub your hand over it, it stirs up in to a milky cloud. It is very fine, you can't really...

How to measure temperature for opening (Syracuse, New York)

Hi Tom, I am in Liverpool NY and opened it yesterday (Monday) as I get sick of the seeing the ugly green cover all winter long... The water is still cold (below 45-50 I would guess), and though we may have a couple cool nights, it will probably stay above freezing. If we do get a really cold...

    Pool Blaster Max

I have had the PB Max for about 4 years now. I haven't had any issues charging it, or any other problems that some people have had. It really is super convenient for a smaller pool. It obviously does not clean as well as using the regular vacuum, but its great for those in between cleanings...

Box of 'Closing Parts' - Where do they go?

I use pieces of foam similar to those to fill the holes in the concrete after the ladders have been removed. Probably not necessary, but it does keep some of the water out.

Skimmer Wear plate when closing pool

Mine comes out easy, so I always take it out. My pool freezes solid, and I would think there would be a risk of damage to it if I left in.

    fiberglass pool crack

Hi JPelizza, I am from Upstate NY as well, just north of Syracuse. We used Royal Fiberglass Pools from Tully NY. They did a great job on ours, and I really believe Jason knows how to properly install a fiberglass pool. We have had no issues with it at all, and its about 4 years old now. I...

    (Sort of) Pool Opening Questions

I second the skimmer socks. We have a black lab, and shes in the pool all summer. It catches all the hair before it gets to the filter. They work great.

Winter water level in in ground pool

I do try to drain my IGP when the water gets really high. As long as it's closed properly, no water will get into the system. I use a gizmo in skimmer, but also use pieces of an old pool noodle, @and stuff the skimmer. The water freezes in the skimmer, but the noodles give enough to...

    Cloudy water...tests look ok.

Hi all. Opened my pool in upstate NY a few weeks ago, to crystal clear but cold water. The weather has finally turned warmer here and I started to bump up my filter run time as the water warmed. It's over 65 degrees now, but the water is cloudy. I use the TFP method, and have for last 3...

Tips for installing granite on small outdoor bar?

Hi, this summer I built a small outdoor bar. It is framed in pressure treated wood with a bamboo face. I made it so I can slide it against the house in the winter. Its 66" long,22" deep and 41" high. Its heavy, but I can slide it on the patio without much effort. I want to put on a...

Neighbor uses Baquacil in chlorine pool ?

OK. Maybe I just saw the name brand Baqucil on the container. Would the Baqucil floc be safe in a chlorine pool ? Just trying to figure out why he hasn't had any issues... Yet. :-)

Neighbor uses Baquacil in chlorine pool ?

I don't have a floor drain, wish I did! Circulation is great, cartridge filter is clean. I will adjust one of the returns downward, both are pointed flat out now. That makes sense... As far as the Baqucil, it was definately small round granules. I read about that stuff and some people said...

Neighbor uses Baquacil in chlorine pool ?

Hi, I have been using TFP method for 3 seasons now, and have no complaints! But, I have a question. This year my pool seems to be a little less clear than previous years. The water is clear, but in the deep end (6'), it seems a little cloudy, seems to lack the "sparkle". Its a white...

Any ideas for soaking taller cartridges?

Re: How to clean a cartridge filter My filter is about 30 " tall. I bought one of those plastic storage bins with the cover that was about 32 " long. The filter fits in there no problem, and the cover is nice to keep kids out of it. Only thing is that it is heavy with all that...

I'm so ready to fill in the pool

I think they mean the concentration level of the bleach. Probably 121 oz of 8.25% is equal to 182 oz of 6.0 % bleach. Just plug the percentage into the pool calculator and it will tell you how much to add. Which will probably be alot for now. Good luck!!!

    Dogs and Vinyl

Welcome! You will find this forum very helpful, I surely have. We had the same concern when purchasing our pool, as our Lab loves the water. We ended up going with a fiberglass pool, and we have been very happy. We tell everyone that we bought the pool for our dog! I have found the...

Please help me decide fiberglass vs. gunite

We live in Upstate NY, and chose fiberglass (Leisure), and have no regrets. The weather fluctuates from below zero in winter, to 100 in summer. As with any pool, the PB choice is probably the most important choice in the whole plan. Study as much as you can, and gather informed information...

BBB has another perk: Filter Cartridge So Easy to Clean

I noticed the same thing this past season. I think I only cleaned the cartridge after opening and once during the season. But, I don't think it really needed it, as the pressure only went up a few lbs... The year before I went BBB, I was cleaning the cartridge every 10 days or so. I really...

How many degrees do you loose at night?

I found that not using my solar cover on the pool overnight during the warmest part of the summer months did not matter much, maybe losing a degree or two, but the sun each day would return that lost warmth. In the spring/early summer/late summer months, using the solar cover on the cooler...

Building a pool on a hill - differing opinions

Hi, my situation may be a different, and I am not sure exactly what the drop in my yard was. But, my backyard sloped down away from the back of my house, not overly steep, but over 30 feet it was probably close to 4'-5' drop. I was hoping to avoid building a wall if at all possible. Starting...
