    I made a pool logger

I would love it if it could record the min and max temperature for the day in every log. It probably couldn't be actual, but , forecasted for the day for my location would be great! Just a wish :-)

    Just in time!

Opened the pool today. I just pulled the pvc apart, rv antifreeze and water poured out, so just pressing the pvc together by hand held the water in all winter. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N915A using Tapatalk

    Just in time!

I finally got the winter cover on. Used 2 inch pvc in a complete circle, including covering the solar reel. I filled the pvc with water/rv antifreeze mix. No glue, just compression fit. We'll see how it does. Here you can see why I cover it. Looks like I got it covered just in time [emoji1]...

Solar Panel Repairs - "stents" INSTEAD of plugs or glue?

Re: Solar Panel Repairs - "stents" INSTEAD of plugs or glue? And in all the posts and YouTube vidoes, I have never seen it mentioned. I thought I was a genius [emoji1] but really just bought bad panels and I am cheap. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N915A using Tapatalk

Solar Panel Repairs - "stents" INSTEAD of plugs or glue?

I have used the 1/4 inch barbed connectors and even 1/4 inch tubing between 2 barbed connectors for a year now on my Craigslist Helicol panels. Must be 20 or 30 of them and they work great. A little dish soap and hot sun or a hair dryer makes the connection way easier. YMMV Robert Sent from my...

    What's your current pool temp?

I wanted to see what the 6 4x12 panels would do. 98 on Sunday after a couple days at 100. 94 today! I guess they work [emoji91]

Solar panels on east and west sides of roof. Design advice

The minor leak I have is in a small tube right at the very top of the panels, about 25' up (it's a steep pitch roof). Does that mean there is positive pressure through out the solar system or could it still be sucking in air somewhere else? The solar was on 100% of the time (late) last season...

Solar panels on east and west sides of roof. Design advice

You had to say the "L" word, didn't you! I don't want to admit it (to myself) but there probably is. Wouldn't I see water coming out rather than air sucking in? I will try these when I open the pool, probably late April. Maybe I'll open early to get a run at it, it's only a couple extra...

Solar panels on east and west sides of roof. Design advice

The check valve is a swing valve, not a spring valve and I installed it for the solar. Do some swing valves have a lot of head loss? With the solar disengaged (and also before the solar) there are no bubbles, with either 1 or both of the returns open, so no problems at all. With the solar...

Solar panels on east and west sides of roof. Design advice

It winterized right now. The bypass is normally closed and in and out to the roof are wide open, and the solar is controlled by the automated valve. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N915A using Tapatalk

Solar panels on east and west sides of roof. Design advice

90's at the top to the outside then 90's to the roof. Thanks Isaac, that is really what I thought the problem was (something like it anyway) The left vertical pipe goes directly underground and splits to 2 returns. The middle is not used (obviously) but goes to a return in the pool. The...

Solar panels on east and west sides of roof. Design advice

Also, there is a pinhole leak in 1 panel. I hate getting on the roof even with safety gear. I see moisture on a couple tubes down a couple feet before it evaporates. I can't see water but the panel "looks" wet. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N915A using Tapatalk

Solar panels on east and west sides of roof. Design advice

No bypass. Full flow with 1 return closed to stop the bubbles. Not to distract, but why does increasing the back pressure (closing a return) fix it? It is the only way I could stop the bubbles. I assumed it "forced" the solar the fill up with more flow in than out. Sent from my...

Solar panels on east and west sides of roof. Design advice

Thanks Poodv, I will take a look at the vs pump! Mark, yes it is a MaxFlo. I guess I shouldn't write after midnight. Yes the VRV is as shown as the PRV above. I even tried sealing it in plastic and got the same results. It surprised me when the pressure really didn't change with the solar...

Solar panels on east and west sides of roof. Design advice

The solar panels were up and working last summer! A noticeable increase in the pool temperature! The only problem was I had to close 1 of the 2 returns (inter-connected, I used a winter plug) in order to keep the panels fully primed. With both open I get consistent bubbles out of the returns...

solid winter cover with cover pump on top emptied the pool

It happened to me also with a 3 year old cover and a brick weighing down a siphon hose. I was so worried in the spring that I had developed a leak but that was not the case. Just a porous winter cover. I was thankful and now I pull out the siphon hose :-) Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N915A using...

    Pentair SunTouch Setup

I have my pump hooked up to the Aux 1 relay and the solar valve hooked up normal and it turns on when the solar temp is above my set temperature. I can also run it manually any time I need by pressing the Aux button. The menu system is confusing to say the least and the manual is worse. Sent...

Making an old pool NEW again

That is so cool! I have looked into led edge lighting but worried about the electrical hazards. Can you provide any details on the led strips? Brand, water proof rating, vendor, etc.? Any installation tips would be appreciated also. Again, beautiful! Robert

What did you do to your pool today?

Day 1 and day 2 (today) I started at 6AM both days and was dripping wet and exhausted by the end. Thankfully we have 10 lbs. of tri-tip on the barbecue for my wife's birthday party. I see pool time in my future. Next weekend we hook up the plumbing.

    Pentair Suntouch programming

Thank you Jason! I figured it out! Instead of the pump hooked up to the "pump" relay output, I hooked it up to the Aux1 relay output and it works! 1. Pump turns on from 2:00 - 6:00 with the "Pool" schedule 2. Solar and pump only turns if the solar temp is high enough between 8 am and 8 pm on...

Hello, I have a Suntouch 520819, a single relay connected to a 1 hp single speed pump, 6 roof mounted Heliocol solar panels with automated solar valve and a 10,000 gallon in ground pool. I want to program the controller for 2 functions: 1. Turn on the pump (filter) from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm...

Solar panels on east and west sides of roof. Design advice

Wow! Thanks Mark! I put those in as a double check. The thought was to close the isolation valves in the pump room, blow in one and out the other. We get regular freezes here in the winter.I'm not the best plumber and figured better safe than sorry. It won't create any problems will it?
