    Higher CYA = lower pH?

quick question. We use trichlor at work for our jaccuzi. I've been draining it once a week to keep the CYA down to below 100. Over 100 and you get shut down by the health department. I want to keep the pH from rising fast. I drained the jaccuzi, filled it up, added acid to get the pH to 7.2...

Gonna get a new pool built. Any tips?

I need ideas for my future pool. I'm getting a new pool built. I already have 2 quotes from 40k to 44k. I'm thinking of going with salt chlorinator, cartridge filter, concrete pool with white plaster, easy touch controls I'm a pool operator and I've only dealt with commercial pools with...

    Trichlor and the sun

This is a commercial pool and we use trichlor. 40k gallons. The pool doesn't get any sunlight during winter. How crucial is UV to trichlor? Pool turns green many times during the cold season even when tje free chlorine is usually at around 5-7 ppm with CYA at 30-40, pH at around 7.6-7.8 and TA...

Trichlor vs. Cal hypo... anyone use Cal Hypo?

I'm thinking of switching our public pool from Trichlor to Cal Hypo due to high CYA issues. I can't get the CYA level below 60, thus my FC has to be much higher than 5ppm, which is the highest the local health department allows it to be at. I'd rather deal with high pH issues. Only problem is...

Calcium Hylochlorite and ORP control systems

We use trichlor on our commercial pool and we use an IPS ORP controller that opens the valve when the ORP goes below setpoint. It's a severely flawed system as ORP does not play well with CYA higher than 30. The local pool supply is talking me into switching over to using cal hypo instead of...

    2 inch vs 1 1/2" skimmers

We are getting all 3 skimmers replaced at the pool at work. We had 2 inch skimmers and I see now that the new skimmers the contractor put in are 1 1/2" We use the skimmer to vacuum. We plug 2 skimmers, and put in the vacuum hose on the 3rd, then close the main drain valve til we get 15 in of...

    UV systems prevent algae growth?

This is for a pool for the hotel I work at. We use 3" trichlor with IPS M920 automated feeders using ORP to add/stop chlorine going to the pool. We set it around 650-720, depending on the free chlorine levels. Free Chlorine is always good. Around 5, pH is always around 7.6-7.8, Total Alkalinity...

In layman's terms, can someone explain to me what the difference is and in what application is each of these best used for?

    Aerator to increase pH

I've read more than once on here that some posters have made an aerator they use to increase the pool pH. Does anyone have any pictures or plans on how to make one? I'm looking for something in 120v.

    Trichlor vs. Calcium Hypochlorite

I'm a CPO for a hotel/casino in Las Vegas and have been for 13 years now. All this time, we have been using Trichlor for both the pool and the spa. The pool is 38k gallons. The problem is during the Summer it gets so hot, that we max out the Chlorine feeders, constantly pumping trichlor into...

    Raypak heater won't stay on

I have a Raypak heater that's around 7 years old. It wont stay on. The ignitor would ingite the burner and it just shuts off. No error codes. I jumped the pressure switch, the high limit switch, the flame roll out fuse and I replaced the ignitor with a brand new one. The flame looks nice and...

    Plaster chipping off?

i have a jacuzzi, 1,600 gallons and we had it replastered 5 years ago and now there are some spots where the plaster has come off. My question is, I've seen ads for the "do it yourself" plaster things and I was wondering how good these work? Just need to fill in a few spots. Also, if these work...

    Pool Perfect

Am I the only one to notice that it doesn't really do anything? I have gallons and gallons of it at work, but I notice no difference in using it vs. not using it. I've used regular Pool Perfect and Pool Perfect PhosFree. I thought it would help keep the pool tiles clean since I hate cleaning...

Closing main drain valve when vacuuming

does anyone else do this? My pool has 3 skimmers. I put the vacuum hose in one of them, then I plug the other 2 skimmers with 2" pvc pipes that are capped and filled with water. Then I go close the main drain gate valve until the vacuum gauge hits 15 inches of pressure. Then I start vacuuming.

losing vacuum pressure and main drain valve replacement

This is a commercial pool, but it is small as far as commercial pools ago. Only 38k gallons. We have 3 skimmers, one of them we attach the vacuum hose to and the manual pole vacuum. The other 2 skimmers, we put in plugs (2" pvc with caps) which we fill with water, turn upside down and hook...

How many pumps in a residential spa/jacuzzi?

I'm a certified pool operator, but I've only worked on one pool and one spa for the last 13 years. Our spa at work has 3 pumps and 1 blower. 1 pump for the filter at 1HP, 2 pumps for the spa jets at 1.5 HP and one blower, which blows air into the jets. I don't have any experience with...

    What are my options here?

I'm a CPO, but I have zero experience with building pools/spas. I've only worked on the public pool and spa at work. Is this worth fixing up or is it better to just rip it out of the ground, pour concrete and buy a used above ground spa from Craigslist or something?
