    Disaster while removing concrete decking

I'm sorry if I'm not following your question completely, been a long day already. I hope this helps.... So I just tore out my concrete deck. If yours is constructed like mine, the pool shell is about 12 inches thick, and the deck was about 5. The deck actually just rested on the pool shell...

Working on new pool deck. Got a question

Thought about that, just wasn't sure how to go about it. If I have this right in my head, the concrete would need an AB2 base, then 4-5 inches of concrete, then a couple inches of paver sand and paver on top?

Working on new pool deck. Got a question

We recently tore out our concrete pool deck. We're replacing it with a paver deck, and we're redoing our coping at the same time. We've got pretty much everything figured out (I think) except for anchoring the ladder railings (single rail on the shallow entry, double rails in the deep end)...

Pool is in need of some serious professional attention

Re: Pics of what went wrong this winter Got the proposal back from a local builder. Between 17 and 23k, depending on what kind of finishes we want. Honestly, I don't think that's outrageous, however, it is more than we want to (or can) spend at the moment. Got some time to think about it I...

Pool is in need of some serious professional attention

No pics yet, sorry. I will get some though. No way we can afford to spend that much on something that's not going to positively effect the value of the house, so we're thinking of recruiting some friends and tackling this ourselves. Anyone here personally resurfaced their pool? Been watching...

Pool is in need of some serious professional attention

Plumbing and equipment works fine. It's just not very aesthetically pleasing at the moment. I suppose we can battle with flakes/chunks of coping falling into the pool for another year :)

Pool is in need of some serious professional attention

2 years ago we bought a HUD house. Got an awesome deal and it came with a pool. The house was vacant for a year, and according to the neighbors the pool hadn't been opened for 4+ years prior. Fast forward to now, and this thing needs some serious attention. We've always had problems with...

    Need a new cover

Our previous cover was completely trashed when we bought the house, tattered, torn etc. We made it last through this past winter, but we had to throw it out this year. Any recommendations on where to buy a new one?

    Another way to test chlorine?

What's another recommended method of testing chlorine levels? My kit is down to about 1-2 more uses R-0870 and I'm in the process of shocking. Is there anything worth buying at an LPS or WalMart or anything? Dumb question I'm sure, but this is only my second season and I've only ever used the...

    Dogs in pool, specificallly Labs

That's pretty cool, hadn't considered that. We were swimming late last night and my mastiff slipped on the coping and fell in the deep end. She went straight for the nearest wall, opposite the stairs. She wouldn't have found her way out had I not been there. She cut me pretty good with her...

    Neighbors backwash

My neighbors got a huge, gorgeous pool. He doesn't do any maintenance himself, so every Wednesday his pool service company comes to clean it. They backwash into the street, and it's so full of chemicals, the street is stained with white streaks and patches. Is this is normal when not using...

    Replacing lights

Do you need to replace the lens o-ring when you replace the bulb? Edit: It's a 500w 120v pool lamp. Is there an LED replacement I can use instead?

    Dogs in pool, specificallly Labs

I'm trying to coax mine in, but they don't seem too interested. My boxer will walk the edge of the pool like he wants to jump in, but he's afraid to take that first step. My mastiff used to hide upstairs on the deck while we were in the pool, but she's just started coming closer. Like others...

    Another pump replacement thread

I haven't completely figured out the spa yet. The current pump does run the spa (1 return and 1 drain port) however there is another for it. A Jacuzzi Magnum pump, I haven't even had a chance to check that out yet. As of now it's shut off and no water is routed through the Magnum.

    Another pump replacement thread

My pump died. It was pretty old, the casing on the back has rusted out, it was LOUD etc. We tried fixing it, cleaned, lubed, replaced some seals. I got another few hours out of it, but in the end, the lack of maintenance from the previous owners and the pump not being used for over a year was...

SlimeBag for 1/10 of the price, yes you can!

Good read! My family owns an air filtration manufacturing company. We also dabble a little in liquid filtration. We happen to stock these filters in numerous sizes and micron ratings, as well as different materials. I'm going to have to rig something like this up.

    Brick and tile issue

Not the best pic, but it gives you an idea of what I'm dealing with. Forgive the cleanliness, this was towards the end of shocking. So the house we bought sat vacant for over a year and the pool was not maintained during that period, possibly longer. The only major issue we're having at the...

Thanks so much for all your help! 7 day forecast http://www.kshb.com/subindex/weather/forecast/7_day_forecast Insane temps here, and without all your help I'd be staring at a cement pond in my back yard instead of enjoying the clear pool.

    Is my pump dead?

I woke up yesterday for work and my pump wasn't running. I didn't have time to mess with it then. When I got home I noticed there was no air in the basket and the motor was VERY hot. I flipped the breaker off (should have checked it that morning, assumed it tripped overnight) and let it cool...

    Discoloration on pool floor

Pool is getting better/clearer. There is some discoloration in the deep end (left side of pic, the white circle is the drain) that won't come off with a brush. I don't know if it's paint peeling or some sort of stain? Sorry, but this is the best picture I have at the moment. Uploaded with...

    Any difference in bleach?

I can get Clorox for 1.99 per gallon, but the save brand stuff is 1.45 from the grocery store. Is there any difference to this stuff other than packaging? They both say they contain 6% sodium hypochlorite, but I want to be sure I'm safe to switch to the cheap stuff
