New VSP won't Pull Through Skimmers

I dropped the water level about a 1/2 inch and set the floor drain to about 50%. I noticed some murky then foamy water in the pump window, then it cleared up and everything seems to be operating fine. The weir door is functioning and the skimmers are working. I must have had an air pocket...

New VSP won't Pull Through Skimmers

Thanks for all the help. I really appreciate it. Just got home (have been answering while running errands). One of the weir doors is gone - not sure what happened. The other is stuck up. Water level is normal, but I'll try draining some.

New VSP won't Pull Through Skimmers

Thanks. The pool hasn’t cleared any debris from the surface after working for days (I didn’t hand skim, so I could tell if it a was working).

New VSP won't Pull Through Skimmers

Yes. I have them. Company charged me $200 to have someone evaluate and size the pump. So, if it’s that simple, then I’m glad there is an easy fix, but would probably be a frustrating conversation with the company.

Haven’t updated my signature yet - it’s a Pentair Superflo VST.

New VSP won't Pull Through Skimmers

My pool is ~17 years old. 40,000 gallon, 20x40 with a SWG and heater. Two skimmers and a floor drain; three return jets plus a slide. We've always gotten good circulation and efficient cleaning through the plumbing. Last year, the original pump went out. Our local pool company evaluated...

Aqua Rite Troubleshooting - New PCB?

I have an Aqua Rite SWG that I believe is ~15 years old (pool was here when we bought the house). The previous owner mentioned in passing that they had some trouble with it, so they hadn't used it for a couple of years - just using liquid chlorine. Two years ago, I went ahead and installed a...

    Controlling Ants around Pool

Not sure where to post this, so I thought this might be the spot... we've had trouble the past several years with ants in the fall (we live in Illinois). Clearly, we have several large ant colonies in our landscaping, and when the males become sexually mature late summer/early fall, they grow...

    Slide Replacement Parts

I'm not sure this is the right place to post this question - so please forgive me if I'm way off topic, but I thought I'd start here... the pool was ~15yrs old when we bought the house (inground). This summer, the handrails for the slide came loose/broke off - looks like the fasteners rusted...

High TA in Salt Water Pool

Just posting an update... been almost a month and my TA is down to 95 (Taylor test was dark pink at 90 and bright red at 100). Definitely seems like decent rain was the most effective at bringing it down. I put together a simple aerator tube attached to my return jet, but its progress was very...

High TA in Salt Water Pool

Thanks! I rigged up something similar a few days ago, but not nearly as elaborate (just PVC connected to return that bubbles just over top of the water like a small fountain). Seems to be doing the job, slowly... I was down to 200, then 175, and 150 this morning (testing with Taylor kit under...

High TA in Salt Water Pool

I would say do as much learning about the chemistry concepts as possible (which you're doing), and listen to the advice from guys like Marty and cowboycasey. Those guys have all of this stuff pretty locked down and are very generous with their support/advice. I got creative and put put a...

High TA in Salt Water Pool

Thanks. That's very helpful. I'm guessing difference from 200 to 225 is testing error, because I haven't added any water. I'll give it time.

High TA in Salt Water Pool

I have very high TA and can't seem to knock it down. Here's some background. This is year 3 with our pool, but its 10 years old - we moved in late summer of 2019, so just the 2nd year of opening and full season. The previous owners had a Hayward SWG installed, but they turned it off a couple...

CRAZY high CC! Pool company suggests $300 shock treatment????

Well... FC = 10.5 this morning (CC =0.5+). Almost there. Will keep plugging away for another day. I'm definitely in "better safe than sorry" mode.

CRAZY high CC! Pool company suggests $300 shock treatment????

FC only dropped 3ppm this afternoon, CC = 0.5+, water is clear. Took FC back up to 12ppm tonight... here's to hoping I get 11ppm in the morning! I do have a quick question on SLAM: If 1.) water is clear, 2.) pass OCLT, 3.) but I still get a 0.5 CC reading, am I done, or do I need to go until...

CRAZY high CC! Pool company suggests $300 shock treatment????

Tested last night, FC = 8.0; CC = 1.0-1.5... took FC back to 12ppm (after skimming a ridiculous amount of flowers from our beautiful trees, which were deposited in the pool thanks to a day of 25mph winds here!). Tested this morning, FC =11.0; CC = 0.5+. Water is clear but I can see dead algae...

CRAZY high CC! Pool company suggests $300 shock treatment????

I've learned a ton reading through the forum topics and also the Pool School stuff. Getting a handle on what the chemicals do and what's really in the branded stuff, combined with the Pool Math Calculator has been pretty eye-opening. As I said in my original post to this thread, we're new to...

CRAZY high CC! Pool company suggests $300 shock treatment????

Thanks - Tested again at 6:30 this AM. FC = 9.5; CC = 0.5-1.0. More liquid chlorine... back to FC 12ppm. Will start brushing 2x per day and just keep at it until it passes OCLT.

CRAZY high CC! Pool company suggests $300 shock treatment????

Took it to FC=12ppm after testing this afternoon. Tested again at 8:15 PM. FC = 9.0; CC = 0.5-1.0. Taking it back to 12ppm FC and will check in the morning. Water still looks great.

CRAZY high CC! Pool company suggests $300 shock treatment????

Just tested again... FC = 9.0; CC = 0.0-0.5. Will take FC back to 12, check again tonight, then check OCLT in the morning. Certainly positive, but I can't figure out how CC would be jumping then dropping.
