    Missing skimmer part?

It is connected to a main drain. Front hole to main drain, back hole to pump. I am definitely not getting the 80/20 distribution with the parts I have. Nor would I get an adequate seal if the float valve is triggered. The guy who installed the skimmer left it like that and I'm sure it isn't right.

    Missing skimmer part?

I have a Hayward SP1070B skimmer. Everywhere I look I see the float valve for it is SP1070-FV. But the float valve diameter is too small. It just sits on the bottom and doesn't leave enough room for bottom drain suction. I see a channel for an O ring in the bottom of the skimmer that's a larger...

    What is this tenacious algae?

Oops, ignore the floating white stuff. On closer inspection I had some fluffy cotton ball like seeds float in during testing and didn't notice. Didn't come from the test.

    What is this tenacious algae?

@JamesW Got the test and tested. Looks like the Iron Scale Treatment will do the trick. Copper & Scale Solution #2 did 90% of the work with an obviously bubbling reaction. Following up with Iron, Cobalt & Spot Etching Stuff Solution #1 got it just a little bit better. Sol #1 did little on its...

    What is this tenacious algae?

Thanks, didnt know that Stain ID kit existed. That would be really helpful. I have a SS brush and the ID kit on order. It will take a bit to get here so I'll update once I test. I'm stopping the SLAM as I'm passing the OCLT and this doesn't appear to be organic.

    What is this tenacious algae?

Replastered Oct 2021. IDK the exact plaster, invoice doesn't specify. It is a smooth matte finish, basic white no pigment if that helps. I'll have to reach out to the guy for more details. No discoloration when closing, it all happened over winter. I just discovered my pool heater will no...

    What is this tenacious algae?

Nope, Vitamin C tablets have zero effect on the stain. Test kit is Taylor K-2006C.

    What is this tenacious algae?

It's right at the very top of the Taylor test vial. I guesstimated that was 28 as it's a bit above the 30 mark, thinking on log scale. But np rounding up to 30. CYA was lower than that on the first test but I initially supplemented my SLAM heavily with pucks to bring CYA up. They're dissolved...

    What is this tenacious algae?

Hmm. Not the color I'd expect for iron. But I'll get some vit C tomorrow and see what it does.

    What is this tenacious algae?

The vitals: Day 8 of SLAM, FC topped off to 11 morning and dusk. Brushed 3x/day. CYA 28 (very top of Taylor test vial) CC usually 0, sometimes 0.5 OCLT down 3 to 4 ppm Taken pre-SLAM: PH 7.8 TA 60 CH 80 (adjusted to 250 during SLAM but not yet confirmed via test result) Temp 66 I have very...

Is low TA & CH okay?

Definitely mixed. I do a thorough netting out of debris as soon as the ice melts which churns things up and do a filter run and vac as soon as freezing risk is passed to head off gunk growth. I use ice as my cover as I cant imagine a cover surviving the snowpack that can develop. An early...

Is low TA & CH okay?

CYA is <30, guessing 15-20. I'll be using pucks for a while. I have rather hard water so CH hasn't been a big issue. But this year I didn't add a drop of it, just pumped water (and calcium, and CYA) 1out so snowmelt doesn't overflow.

Is low TA & CH okay?

Using Taylor K-2006C. Using the saturation index wheel from that. Temp is 62. Makes sense. Probably not a lot of calcium in fresh fallen snow and I wouldnt want it stolen from my plaster. I'll increase CH above 250 and adjust the rest from there. Thanks!

Is low TA & CH okay?

I'm just preparing to open the pool (plaster in-ground). Haven't SLAMed yet or added anything. Just figuring out what I'll need. I'm a bit of an unusual case. You know the crazy snow out west this winter? That's me. I always remove a lot of water when I close in the fall (3ft) because the snow...

Need help identifying replacement clamp band for filter (Pentair?)

Ha! I just noticed that I put the model number of the filter in my footnote. Past me apparently knew this at some point. It's the right part. Thank you, past me!

Need help identifying replacement clamp band for filter (Pentair?)

The nut on my filter's clamp band has stripped out due to age & use. The bolt isn't faring too well either. I need a new clamp band but I can't find any brand or model number on my filter. It looks like the label fell off or was removed. The only number I can find on it is on the band itself...

Is an undersized solar heater worth it?

All the calculator's I've found just calculate how many panels I need. But they all beg the question, needed for what? I don't need or want a giant hot tub. I just want to take the edge off by raising the water temp 5-10 degrees. If a 25% solar array will do that, great. If it will struggle to...

Is an undersized solar heater worth it?

I'm rebuilding my pool shed and I have an opportunity to create a roofline conducive to solar heating for an in-ground pool. The roof would face directly south, full sun and I can angle the roof as I see fit. BUT the roof will only be about 25% of the pool surface, well below recommended size...

Should I get a winter cover? (heavy snow area)

I'm a 1st year pool owner and I'm not sure if I should get a winter cover. This forum has provided great advice and I'm looking for it again! I'm in the Utah high-altitude desert. I'd like the cover for general safety and debris protection but I don't have any children or dogs to worry about...

What to do with these test results?

Thanks to all, the advice I received worked perfectly! This is an excellent forum. The water exchange method worked surprisingly well, filling low w/ cold water and draining warm water high. I could tell how "full" my pool was with new water by taking temperature readings at particular depths...

What to do with these test results?

Thanks, mknauss. I'm using my very 3-dimensional land to my advantage and draining with siphons, draining high while filling deep. 2 siphons the same diameter as my fill is keeping my water level fairly stable. I'll keep this up for a while and retest. Wyoming. Good place! And thanks to all.

What to do with these test results?

I'm on a steep, tinder dry mountainside on a ridge with dry valley creek beds 1/8th of a mile to either side of me. I definitely don't have near surface ground water. However, dry, heat and summer sun I have in abundance. I just checked the cement around my pool in full sun. 138 degrees and it...

What to do with these test results?

Thanks for the responses everyone. I appreciate the advice & confirmation of my research. Richard320: I hear you on replacing water whenever I can but that isn't going to work. I don't have a lawn, just desert tolerant landscaping. I also have a <1 mo old new roof that is still shedding grit...

What to do with these test results?

New to the forum and new to pool maintenance. I recently purchased a house with a 20+ year old in-ground pool so I'm now a pool maintainer. I'm also an engineer with google skillz so I've done research and not at square one. Still, I can use some advice on what to do in my particular situation...
