First season with SWCG some observations and a question about closing for the season

Thanks! I'm going out to add some chlorine and get this thing closed up! I was going to let the SWCG bring it up to shock level but I don't think my water is going to warm up enough to bring it back online. Supposed to be pretty cool around NW OH for the next week.

Winterizing - to cover or not

I've done both covered and uncovered (uncovered mostly due to wind taking the cover off). The only issue I had with uncovered was debris being carried by our wonderful Ohio winter winds and being deposited in my open pool. I went back to covering using my "ultimate above ground pool cover" that...

First season with SWCG some observations and a question about closing for the season

Well, the temps have dropped and I'm getting ready to close the pool. They'll be taking off crops and I like to have that giant dust and debris collector covered before the farmers hit the fields. I purchased and installed my SWCG in the spring when the "chlorine shortage" hit (2021.. the year...

    Boric acid buying options

I was searching for boric acid and came across duda diesel being mentioned as a source. I found a really good, or what seems to be a really good, price ($44.15 per 50lb bag) from Farmer Boy ag. Their price is good if you're close and can pick up (I have one relatively close) otherwise it showed...

Some help with adding boric acid needed.

My numbers as of my test this morning are: FC: 5 CC:0 TA: 70 CH: 72 CYA: 65 PH: 7.5

Some help with adding boric acid needed.

That's where I'm planning to buy mine from. After looking at the cost for Borax plus muriatic acid and then the time involved, I figured boric acid was the best way to go.

Some help with adding boric acid needed.

I added a SWCG to my AGP a few days ago. From what I've gathered in my reading, My PH will tend to fluctuate more than what I was used to when using bleach. I've read through many threads and I like the idea of adding boric acid to increase borates to the recommended level of 50 ppm. My problem...

New SWCG install, just one oops!

I just finished my RJ30+ install and I was SO paranoid about doing that. Before any glue went on I was double checking everything! As for the cell orientation, I inverted mine since it was recommended for variable speed or two speed pumps if you're running at lower speed. If it's working for...

Dirt in Bottom of Pool Even After Vacuuming?

It's more likely dead algae that the vac isn't picking up. Gotta use a skim vac to pick that up or keep running the pool bot with the pump on to get it suspended long enough that it cycles through the main filter. I have the same thing right now and at the start of each season. I run the bot...

    Can't keep my FC

I was just thinking that circulation while you're at elevated chlorine levels would be helpful in clearing up whatever is consuming your chlorine. At 1.5 overnight loss you're marginal on being okay. I think 1 or less is recommended. If above 1 you're supposed to perform a "Slam". I didn't look...

Install an anode in AGP with metal walls and rails running a SWCG or not?

I figured as much. When they broke out test strips to check my water chemistry my initial sense was "Run Away!" I was trying to verify some readings but when I got to the store and realized they were using test strips I pretty much knew I was wasting time. Then the conversation went to my new...

Install an anode in AGP with metal walls and rails running a SWCG or not?

In talking with the folks at circupool, I got the impression an anode rod wasn't really necessary. I was at a pool store today and the person there FREAKED OUT when I told them I have an AGP with a SWCG installed. "Install an anode" they said. So what's right? I don't want to cause problems with...

    Salt too high?

I just started my RJ30 today. My K-1766 kit tested at about 2800. My display for current salinity showed about 2600 and the low salt light was blinking. I'd say run the system and see how it acts. BTW, on my RJ the suggested range was 3-4,000ppm with a 3500 target.

Are you running your pump all night? If not, you should be.

How to Test Iron Level before filling Newly Plastered Pool Filling w/Well Water

Plumbing company might be able to test that for you if they install water softeners. Or they might suggest someone nearby who can test it. I had my water tested at the place I bought my well pump.

    Can't keep my FC

Double check your CC. You've got something more than sun eating chlorine IMO.

    Thinking of Conversion

I'll be starting up my new RJ30 tomorrow. I just received my Salinity test kit. I've tested and adjusted CYA. I have FC at 5, TA 80, PH 7.2 and salt should be at 3200 tomorrow. Circupool recommends 3500 so I added a bag less than their chart recommended figuring I should be on the low but...

Possible TFP CYA chart discrepancy for SWG?

Apologies to the TFP folks. I posted a thread on basically the same subject. I must have not been using the right search terms or I was in the wrong section searching.

Why does TFP recommend a higher CYA for SWCG than for Liquid Chlorine dosed pools?

I think I'm onto what you're saying. I was basically keeping the CYA lower to use less chlorine to raise my level back up to 6ppm when it dropped during use and from sun. With the SWCG I'll have a more consistent level throughout the day so the higher CYA will reduce loss due to sunlight. Right?

Why does TFP recommend a higher CYA for SWCG than for Liquid Chlorine dosed pools?

I was looking at the recommended CYA for a SWCG pool and noticed the recommended level is 70ppm. When using liquid sodium hypochlorite, the recommended level was around 45ppm if I recall correctly. I kept my FC at around the recommended level of 6ppm with liquid. With SWCG is the recommended FC...

    Need New System

I just bought a RJ30 after talking with the folks at circupool. We discussed pool size. I told them I was looking at systems with a 40K capacity. They pointed me to the RJ30 because it was producing as much per day as most of the competitive brand 40K systems were. I considered a SJ model but...

Converting to SWG... the good, the bad and the ugly??

That's what I'm looking for! Thank you. I've never really taken temps in early season to know if this will work for what I want it to do or not. Something else that would help is knowing about how much salt I'd have to add each spring. I know I can almost buy a SWG with two years worth of...

Converting to SWG... the good, the bad and the ugly??

Where would you ever come up with the idea that I want an excuse not to install one? I'm not into wasting time or money. I want an excuse to install one! I want whatever I do to be the best bang for the buck and have the best chance of producing the outcome I desire which is minimizing my time...

Converting to SWG... the good, the bad and the ugly??

This is what I've been reading more about. I know my pool isn't properly bonded... but it will be before the start of the next swim season! Yeah I'm aware of the added salt with liquid chlorine. I actually add salt to my pool (not a lot) early in the season then add a bit more after the kids...

Converting to SWG... the good, the bad and the ugly??

This is the part that concerns me. This is the time I most want/need a system that feeds or generates automatically. The rest of the summer when my wife or I are around, it's a matter of walking out and adding about 1/2 gallon every night. This is why I'm debating SWG vs designing a system to...

Converting to SWG... the good, the bad and the ugly??

Good! Then I'll only have to adjust PH once during a season because that's all I have to adjust it now!

Converting to SWG... the good, the bad and the ugly??

I've been doing as much reading about SWG's as I can possibly stand. I tend to over analyze purchases like this. But when I'm buying something I want to make sure I'm getting the most bang for my buck meaning I'll reduce the time I spend testing and increase the amount of time I spend...

    Winterizing without winter cover

Timely thread! I just had my "Ultimate Above Ground Pool Cover" torn off the pool for the first (and last) time this year and it happens at least once each season for the reasons you mention. I also had a few uprights bent. I'm doing away with the winter cover and going with a leaf net cover to...

Anyone here have a homemade solar powered chlorine dosing system?

My problem is, I want everything hidden out of sight. I didn't think ahead to put an outlet on the deck or under the deck, so to do a 120v pump I'd have to run a new line under the deck. I was thinking that a solar setup would be an "elegant" solution.. and if I place the panel just right... It...
