Maytronics S200 ends up on it's back

Yeah, it is weird. I took out the "ultra fine" pleated filters and installed the mesh "fine" filters and pulled off the "non-return flap" and it ends up upside down only 25% of the time - must be something related to this motor's inherently weak suction. Hmm. Watching the pool surface I see...

Maytronics S200 ends up on it's back

I have checked the impeller, the impeller "exhaust" stack, and now using only the rough filter (which is clear). This newer A20 still ends up on it's back after every cycle, unlike the S200. Considering what home remedies to aid in "buoyancy orientation" I can come up with, but it seems to...

Maytronics S200 ends up on it's back

At some point during a run it will climb a wall, then land on its back. At that point, it will stay that way like a turtle on it's back.

Maytronics S200 ends up on it's back

Thanks. Although I have repaired these Matronics cleaners a few times I never noticed the float (on the right upper side next to the motor) or the weight (upper rear behind the basket). Both are in place on both my old (S200) and new (Active20) cleaners. Still, the new one ends up inverted...

Maytronics S200 ends up on it's back

I will. I did reach out to Marina via email and they never responded. I have looked at the parts diagrams and the old one and have not seen any floats or foam. But it is like clockwork, every cycle it ends up inverted and stays that way.

Maytronics S200 ends up on it's back

I am on my 2nd S200 robot. The newest one ends up on it's back almost every day. The first one I had for several years did not seem to exhibit this phenomenon - rarely would I find it inverted. Any ideas what might be causing this. They are nearly identical, except for the build dates. Thanks.

Can't keep my CYA levels up Texas heat is making me lose my mind

I am always surprised how quickly CYA depletes. Maybe the heat contributes, but I have to remember to check relatively often.

Incredible Maytronics longevity! I seem to get 2+ maybe 3 years before the infamous motor water intrusion failure.

New EVO 614i Robot Pool Cleaner Review

Gotta say this is a pretty dumb design flaw, especially for the (lazy?) folks like me that put a robot on an automated switch much of the time. Should have been a no-brainer to run the bot when the power switched on, like the basic Matronics units.

Design flaw in Pentair Warrior SE robotic vacuum

I am curious how the sleeve would prevent cable twisting. I visualize the robot "rotating" or sorta barrel rolling on it's end, resulting eventually in cable twists. If you try this approach, please post.

Can a pressure cleaner port be (easily) replumbed for suction?

It looks like 1.5. A bit of an odd new piping project, but possible.

Can a pressure cleaner port be (easily) replumbed for suction?

Just curious if anyone as done that. I am probably done with pressure side cleaners and probably migrating away from robots. Might try suction-side but I think things work better with a dedicated line and I have the pressure side polaris-style port in the pool already. ?

Maytronics Active 20 Vacuum NO SUCTION

The cloth flappy thing has a bungee/elastic on the side that attaches to the bottom opening and two metal rods on the other end that sort of fold over with each other to keep large debris from draining back out. It is not an airtight seal. The cloth flap has two purposes: to keep stuff from...

Maytronics Active 20 Vacuum NO SUCTION

Or both. If you like these robots (i.e. "the devil you know vs the devil you don't"), having two means you will likely have at least one working robot all the time and a local source for spares. When mine does need a new motor unit I will probably buy another robot and work on getting a 2nd...

Maytronics Active 20 Vacuum NO SUCTION

You might find the suction motor on fleabay, provenance unknown, but successfully opening the motor box and replacing the motor is a significantly more difficult project than swapping the motor box complete, but it is do-able if you are handy. And it might or might not work depending on the...

Maytronics Active 20 Vacuum NO SUCTION

Sorry I was not meaning the motor itself, the entire motor box. I have had to replace 2 motor boxes on mine. Four year life is not unusual.

Maytronics Active 20 Vacuum NO SUCTION

You can visually check if the suction motor doesn't spin (keep your fingers out of the blade) but the drive motor runs and that will confirm your problem. I have seen them start for a little bit if you spin the motor shaft, but that's only a temporary resolution. Replacement motor drive units...

My Tiger Shark QC is officially retired! Looking at a Dolphin.

I think the basic model will clean identically to the same cleaner with more fancy features.

My Tiger Shark QC is officially retired! Looking at a Dolphin.

My experience on maintaining a Tigershark QC was horrible. They are pita to work on to begin with and mine would wear out and spit out bearings in the pool - wear parts were expensive. I consider mine a bad purchase and glad it is gone. The S200 style is infinitely easier to work on and...

Dolphin Active 20 Troubleshooting - Appears to be getting no power

If it has a swivel on the cord I have found them to sometimes get flaky. If it dies again, twist the swivel and see if the connection returns. The swivels can be opened and serviced - I would use some silicone grease to make sure it is water sealed.

New EVO 614i Robot Pool Cleaner Review

Really interested to see the workings of this cleaner. Interested because I have become a whizz at replacing S200 drive gear parts. TMI warning: Although I am on pool #3 of as we had one built in every house we've been in, on the current one I (stupidly) went with the "natural" look with sort...

New EVO 614i Robot Pool Cleaner Review

Interesting and also following. Since about 50% of my time spent with the S200 is replacing parts and fixing it (wear parts and the lesser lifetime of motor drive units), I am curious how this will play out.

    Help with union repair

These are supposed to work. This is different that the one you ordered. If you try this, please let us know. Sure beats futzing around doing repair surgery on the pvc, seeing as they do crack and sometimes more than once. It is cheaper to change out the o-rings and put a bit of o-ring lube...

Air in Hayward TriStar VS pump basket at low speed

I think this is the winner. Spa mode does not appear to drop the level. Time to break out the o-ring kit and lube again and go ahead and re-do all the valves and union.

    Tips and Tricks

While this thread used to be active, but seems dead now... I stumbled across this and have needed this solution in the past. People seem to crack the threads on salt cell unions, and they are fairly fragile imo. Sure, if you periodically replace the old, flattened union o-rings and lube them...

Air in Hayward TriStar VS pump basket at low speed

Taken last year, but still accurate. The o-rings in all the valves were replaced a couple years ago. The Tristar is about 3 years old. The equipment is fairly new, the pool is 20 yo.
