    Pump Frozen

Thanks all. I was able to get the basket lid off and all the ice out of the pump and filter. After a few hours in the sun, all is well and the pump is back up and running.

    Pump Frozen

Well, a breaker tripped last night and my pump was off. It is frozen and there is a sheet of ice on the pool surface. I have the pump tented with a light and I am adding a space heater to thaw it so I can get the pump back on. Any suggestions on how to minimize the damage getting things back on...

Black Algae, Wire Brush, New Plaster

I think that was my point. It is not metal, it is a nylon brush with much firmer bristles than the standard pool brush. But not as harsh as steel. I never found anything in between steel and soft nylon pool brushes.

Black Algae, Wire Brush, New Plaster

I had a few spots last year that may have been algae. Not sure. But I used a Char Broil Cool Clean Brush and it came out no problem. Its a grill brush so it is small. And you have to get in and hold your breath. but it works if you are able. I would not use steel if you can already see scratches.

    NO Bond Beam??

Now I am looking back to see if I have one too :lol::lol:. It looks like I do, but I know it was #4 steel used for the entire structure.

When can you swim after new build?

We were in once the pool was full equipment on and water balanced. So I think it depends on your builder and plaster type. Pebble is different than traditional white plaster in terms of the break in period.

    Getting rid of birds

I use toy rubber snakes. Gotta find something that looks realistic and not the cheap plastic ones. I also have an owl for the rabbits and an alligator to keep ducks out. Sometimes that owl actually scares me haha ! But snakes have worked like a charm on my speakers the birds used to love so much.

    Hiding Pool Equipment Need Suggestions

Pics are in my build thread in sig, but it is just simple posts and horizontal cedar fence pickets. Play your cards right with post settings exactly 6 feet apart and you don't have to cut anything. I was all in for about $200 6ft by 12ft but a third of that was the wood stain. Just make sure you...

Gunite Problem- What's the solution? Please help!!!

Maybe they can add a third drain on the other side so it is at least symmetrical? Or at least a dummy drain. :brickwall:

Not so New Pool Build - TX

Unfortunately I found you guys after I built the pool, but luckily before I took over the chemicals. I am finally getting around to posting the build with pics, so here goes. I did already replace the dump Polaris (Steve) for a robot (Norm). Steve would just find his corner and stay there, geez...

Decisions...deciaions "baller on a budget" in North Texas

No, I usually run at about 1200 rpm using I think 50 watts while I am hugging a tree. VSP yes, ditch the booster pump and polaris and ask for a robot and iAqualink. Does the PM even own a pool ?

    Dolphin Nautilus,Plus,Clever Clean

Plus one for the Nautilus Plus - I think In order of importance - 2 Brushes is first priority as they get you more cleaning power, Then top loading cartridges (I imagine bottom is kind of a pain), Then the cord management system is up to you. I guess swivel cords might fail. CleverClean might...

Dolphin Nautilus Plus with CleverClean REVIEW

Look at Sunplay.com. They have the best price I have seen. Got mine a few days after ordering with free shipping and all is running perfectly.

    Good Price? Houston Texas

Since pricing varies over the country so much even between Houston, The Woodlands, Conroe and Huntsville it is probably going to be hard to say until you talk to someone in Huntsville with a pool that was recently built. You are probably seeing a lot of expenses built in for all the contractors...

New owner, astronomical power bills, need help sizing a variable speed pump

Just curious if this is a salt water pool. If you are using the pump to create Chlorine from salt then that is a good reason to run the pump so long. Just didn't want you to overlook this point as I think it is certainly something to consider when talking about pump speeds and run-times.

Brand New Equipment Install - Am I overreacting?

The only thing I wanted to add is that the ozone feed directly into you pump may not be ideal as it can corrode seals and be a safety concern if that bleeder line from your air pressure relief valve fails. Read Here for details on 2 different methods to introduce ozone. Then again most people...

Opinions on pool length for swimming laps

As an amateur competitive swimmer I tend to think 15 meters is bare minimum which is around 50 feet. My pool is 30 feet and I would not even think about trying to work-out in it. With that said you might get pretty good use out of 40 feet, but definitely no less than that. Especially if you have...

Iaqualink Setting up a Variable Speed pump

iAqualink is great but a little difficult to program. You will need to go into the Web link within the app to get to the actual application with this functionality. Go to the Menu then System Setup then One Touch Setup. There you can pick your one touch and name it what you want by selecting it...

    Purchased Dolphin Nautilus Plus Today

Well I am jealous, but that's the robot I have my eye on too once I get the funding :o . Until then I will just let my dumb Polaris keep getting stuck in the same corner.

    Spray Deck vs. Stamped Concrete

My community pool uses a spray deck. They just re-finished it last spring and it was already chipping in the summer. Granted it takes a ton of abuse and the pool is packed all summer long, but I was not impressed. I would go for stamped.

Pool is going well, time to introduce Borates?

A TFP member was kind enough to build up a (poollogger.com) web based log for us. Work perfectly so far for me, but I think it is still under going some testing.

New Pool with 2 waterfalls and bubbler question

Seems high to me. I only have one waterfall but I can get it going with the bubbler at about 1200 rpm. But water is diverted by the valve actuators from the returns to the water features. When you have the waterfalls on is water coming out of the returns as well? I would contact the builder...

I messed up my CEO, help!

Is there some sort of FC neutralizer you are using? I tend to get higher ph results when FC is high. So your ph might be a good bit lower than tests show which would shift the CSI back down.

    iAqualink Freeze Protect RPM Adjust

Yep that is exactly what I have seen. The system is a little quirky like that. I used 1200 as the speed at the top and 1400 for freeze protect. So I will know for sure this weekend when we go from 70 back down to freezing

    iAqualink Freeze Protect RPM Adjust

After waking up on a cool morning with my pool running full blast, waterfall sounding like Niagara falls and deck jets looking like Old Faithful my only thought was how many watts am I wasting here? I knew about freeze guard but this seemed excessive and It was 38F. So after messing with the...

Is a shotcrete pool really worth the additional cost.

I really think you go with your gut on that and stay within your means. Vinyl is a great value and I have seen some really beautiful vinyl pools. But also keep in mind the long term costs associate with liner replacement around every 10 years. Also, how much is it going to cost if the...

Thoughts on this new build SOW?

Nice looking build. You are in the right place to learn about pools. I didn't see any umbrella sleeves. Just a thought to add those into the plans where you want. I don't think they are expensive unless you wait until after concrete is in.
