    Spa electricity issues

No, we don't really do winter here. Current daytime temps where I am are 26 degrees. (78F) so there should be no extra demand on the spa. The power bill before this one would be a truer "winter" bill. And that was a lot less. It's nearly consuming double what it has been for the past year. Mas...

    Spa electricity issues

It's always been with the heater on. We have it set to 37 (Celsius). 18kw was an approximation, as it was before the monitoring system was installed. So just basing it off meter readings and the bill. The monitoring system has just been installed because of this huge bill. The water is never...

    Spa electricity issues

The pump is on whenever the spa timer is on. But the jets (we call them blowers here, the other ones that pump air through are the bubblers) come on occasionally. Maybe it's longer the. Every hour or so. But it feels like I hear it very regularly when I'm home. We had a monitoring system put...

    Spa electricity issues

Yes, the comparison from the before and after is factored the exact same way. We have owned the spa for a year (new home owners where spa was already onsite) and it's only this past 3 months that have been having issues. Yes, we have insulated covers on it. I think the blowers go on to move...

    Spa electricity issues

I seem to be having issues with my spa. Our solar system wasn't putting anything back to the grid, and we were concerned as we suddenly have a very high consumption - 33+ kWh per day is being consumed. Our previous reading with the spa and prior to the solar being installed was about 18kwh. So...

Just back from holiday... Spa is a mess!

My spa is the cleanest it's ever been since using the TFP method. It's usually only needed a few tweaks, never a huge overhaul like this.

Just back from holiday... Spa is a mess!

Hi, Just need some advice on my spa. Just back from a long trip overseas. It looks ok, slightly cloudy. But the numbers aren't so good. PH 6.8 FC 0.5 CC did not test TA 25 CH 75 CYA 35 This is my plan at the moment. Any particular way to do this?

    Oily Spa

That test kit is lovely. Very easy to use, and amazing service. I have tried a scumbug, but it's not doing anything.

    First chemical test of Spa

My levels are staying nice and even, which is great. It's so much easier to manage, and so much clearer then before! I just need to get rid of this yucky oily surface, and it will be perfect.

    Oily Spa

So it's been going pretty smoothly with using the TFP method. But the oil is getting worse. I've done a partial drain, but there's so much stuff on the top, and it goes straight through my scoop. I really don't know how to get rid of it without a full drain. It's done this every 3...

    Rainwater Tank

Here's one of the tanks. There's a little bit of space underneath it.

    Rainwater Tank

Yeah, they're a tan coloured though. So they let light through. Just not direct sunlight. There is a mesh area at the top that the drains pour into, and that's open to small amounts of sunlight.

    Rainwater Tank

Question for you more knowledgable pool experts.... We have 2 (soon to be 3) rainwater tanks on our property. We use a pump and fill the spa every 3 months from the accumulated rainwater. My question is, should we be doing anything with the rainwater while its sitting in the tank? My partner...

Newbie pool owner from Canberra, Australia

I have used clear choice labs in the past, and they are great. Super fast service and delivery. I was really impressed. Semi-local to you. (Not really. Lol) I'm in Brissy. Nice to see another Aussie here. :)

Are all these 10+ chemicals really neccessary?

Salesmen are designed to sell from their preferred suppliers. They aren't the best person to go to for unbiased information.

dirt keeps getting in hot tub ...

We have clips on our cover that holds it down. Is in an above-ground or in-ground spa?

Aerating - how to adjust return jet eyeball?

I use the screwdriver technique on Occassion. It works well. Just make sure you do it carefully.

When would one use "Sleep Mode" (Balboa Control Panel)

When would one use "Sleep Mode" (Balboa Control Panel) We have standard mode, economy mode and sleep mode. We were told that if we wanted to keep the spa going 24/7 we can set it to standard mode during the day, and sleep mode at night. The filter will be going still, but the heater...

    First chemical test of Spa

Ok, I did a CYA test again this morning, as I was curious at the numbers. Not enough to read yet, but a huge increase on what it was previously. There is a lot of cloudiness now. The top view is at the 30ppm line, and I can still see the image at the bottom. But it's getting there! Yay...

    First chemical test of Spa

I'm working on it. I need around 350g of dichlor to get 30ppm of CYA. I've added 240g. There's some in there, but the reading is so low that it's not measurable on my test. There's a tiny bit of cloudiness. I'm happy to keep increasing it slowly through dichlor before switching to bleach. The...

    First chemical test of Spa

Well what do you know, the baking soda worked! PoolMath said to add 363g, but I only added 300g. And it's back up to 75. It was reasonably quickly after adding it that I tested, so I'll try again tonight just to be sure. But here are today's numbers. I'm now up to a total of 240g of added...

Does the baking soda have to be new? I have some, but it's around a year old.

    First chemical test of Spa

No it was liquid. Yes pump was going, but I also turned the jets on for 15 mins after to mix it, as I didn't want that stuff settling anywhere as its so corrosive. I still have some PH+ left. Is it worthwhile to add that to increase the TA?

    First chemical test of Spa

Hmm, so it seems like the acid takes a few days to register. I had a TA reading of 100, so I put a small amount of the acid in. Tested that night and it was 75. So I didn't put any more in. Tested yesterday and it was 50, and today is 25... Probably less as only half a drop changed it to the...

    First chemical test of Spa

PH - 7.0 CYA - 0 FC - 4 CC - 0 CH - 75 TA - 50 I am going to run the jets for a bit in the morning to get the PH up again. But the Dichlor isn't bringing up the CYA. I've added 190g now. I'll just keep going and I will keep monitoring it.

So I almost "gassed" myself today

I tried to use a metal spoon to measure MA for my spa, as I had no container to measure it into. Took the top layer off the metal. Whoops!! Man it smells bad though.
