    Pentair OptiFlo Very Loud

Likely the bearings are failing. If you are mechanically inclined it's not a bad repair. Check out the below link. YouTube Link

    Is My IC40 Dead???

@Jimrahbe Here is a blurb from page 10 of the Pentair Power Center Installation Manual that I found HERE. "Output: 22-39 VDC @ 6 AMPS maximum from the Power Center" So I'm well within spec

    Is My IC40 Dead???

Any idea when the best time to buy would be for these? I've decided I'm just going to close the pool and not fix it until I open, so no hurry at this point.

    Is My IC40 Dead???

Just looked at ebay and there are brand new IC40 units for as low as $400. Only problem is I'm fairly certain most of them are scam units. The pictures were all taken from another listing and the only seller that has positive feedback is from him selling a bunch of stuff in the $3 range...

    Is My IC40 Dead???

@Jimrahbe Where are you taking your measurements? Are you taking them inside the power center? If so, where are you connecting your probes?

    Is My IC40 Dead???

Jim, That's how I tested it. I unplugged the cell from the power center and used a multimeter set to the 600 scale for Volts DC and inserted the probes into different pairs of connections on the power center where the cell plugs in. When I tested between the two connections running parallel to...

    Is My IC40 Dead???

Honestly, I don’t have any issues with the Pentair and to switch to something new would require unnecessary work for me (plumbing, wiring, etc).

And when I say other forums, I really mean other threads.....there are no other pool forums I trust ;)

    Is My IC40 Dead???

So I've been reading through other forums and I think the IC40 may actually be the best setup for me. It seems like most people have their pool in a full sun location. I have tons of trees that block sun on the pool for a good part of the day. During the hottest part of July, I'm typically...

    Is My IC40 Dead???

The first IC40 came with the house so I don't know how old it was. The one that just now kicked the dust was installed in July 2012, so it lasted 9 years. What are the benefits of getting the IC60? Does it just last longer because you don't have to run the cell longer? Any other benefits...

    Is My IC40 Dead???

Will I have to replace the power center as well if I move up to the IC60?

    Is My IC40 Dead???

I checked my Cl level today and it was 0. I went and looked at my IC40 SWG and all the lights were off. I opened up the power center and the green light was on. I did a continuity check on the fuse and it tested ok for continuity. I pulled the power cord from the IC40 out of the power center...

    pH Test Not Reading Correctly

I'm using the right side of the K-1000 kit (pH testing). I called it the OTO because that's what it's called on TFTestkits website but I was apparently using the term wrong. However it's the same test I've been performing for pH for many years so I know that I'm doing it correctly. I just...

    pH Test Not Reading Correctly

I tried three drops and its a shade darker than the 7.2 scale on the test (in the orange color spectrum). If I add a 4th drop it turns a darker shade of orange and a 5th drop just turns it even darker orange. So I'm guessing that my pH is in the 7.2-7.3 range. Gotcha on the white background...

    pH Test Not Reading Correctly

I opened my pool this year and my pH tests don't seem correct. The colors that I'm getting don't align with any of the colors on the OTO. At first it was bright red like the original color of the R-0014 phenol red so I figured I just had a very high pH for some reason. I approximated at 8.5...

Upgrading pump - looking for advise, suggestions

Just to Recap - So, the problem is your electric bill is high in the summer months. You suspect it's your pump but you only run it 4 hrs a day. If I were you I'd run the numbers on power consumption of that pump coupled with your energy rates because I'm betting that your pump is not causing...

    Tap fill water test

You may also want to test for metals. I was noticing metal stains on my liner and tested my fill water which is well water (I'm on city water but have a well for irrigation). It tested positive for metals and when I got a new liner I decided to fill with city water. I haven't seen any stains...

    Issues With Chlorine

Looks like I'm golden now. I added 2 more gallons and now my FC is 11 and CC is 0.5. Apparently the first batch was bad.

    Issues With Chlorine

I didn't before but just did. FC is now 5 and CC is 0.5. This has me thinking the second batch is actually ok as I only poured 1 gallon of that in. I just added 2 more to see if that brings the FC up. Will let you know. I'm just surprised it doesn't smell strongly of CL. Normally when I...

    Issues With Chlorine

I'm in the process of opening my pool (currently a green swamp) and am having some issues with my chlorine. I bought THIS below chlorine from Home Depot today which is supposed to be 10% Sodium Hypochloride. I added 3 gallons to my pool, waited 20-30 minutes and tested and had a FC of 1...

Opening - CYA First or Straight to SLAM?

You da man @mknauss. I read through the Prerequisites section where I figured it would be but didn't get to the details down below. Thanks for the super quick reply.

Opening - CYA First or Straight to SLAM?

I'm getting ready to open the pool and was wondering if I should adjust the CYA up to around 50 prior to SLAM or just leave it at 20 until after SLAM. Thanks.

Diving Board Replacement - Need Advice

I ended up using some Dewalt AC100+ Gold epoxy and stainless steel all-thread I picked up from a Fastenal (with SS hardware). As long as you have a hammer drill, it's actually reasonably easy. The only thing you really need to pay attention to is the original assembly that's buried in...

Diving Board Replacement - Need Advice

One of the bolts connecting the board to the base was seized and I finally got around to cutting it off. Upon seeing the underside of the board I discovered a 14" crack originating from that bolt hole. That definitely seals the deal on that board going to the dump. Found a new Interfab La...

Diving Board Replacement - Need Advice

And can someone explain to me the purpose of bonding the diving board? Is it because it has the wiring for the light concealed inside the base (which it does)? And how would I bond it? I haven't cut the bolts yet so I could likely attach to one of those (one in the back didn't "blow up")...

Diving Board Replacement - Need Advice

This weekend we had an issue when an adult (~225 lbs) did a big bounce on our diving board and sheared off some extremely rusty anchor bolts, sending the diving board and base into the pool. These are the three bolts that mount the base to the concrete. Truthfully it looks like all three nuts...

    Timer for 2-Speed Pump??

Just playing with options for now. I may want to wait until my father in law comes to town to wire this all up. He's not quite an electrician, but about as close as you can get to it without actually being one. I just need to determine what to have on hand when he gets here.

    Timer for 2-Speed Pump??

All my pool equipment is on one large double breaker (not sure of amps - at work) and I've never had an issue tripping the breaker. From memory (which sucks) the current setup is - power from timer A (controls pump) flows to timer B (controls Polaris). Obviously the clocks for both are always...

    Timer for 2-Speed Pump??

@JamesW - couldn't I do this all with just two timers, one 104 and one 106. I'd hook up the pump the way the diagram is shown above. But then for the Polaris, I'd run the common from terminal 4 of the 104 to the Polaris as well and then connect the Polaris to terminal 3 of the 106. That would...

    Timer for 2-Speed Pump??

@JamesW Is there any way you can think of I could do this with two switches instead of 3?
