pooldv, when you say "shut it off", do you mean just set it to 0%, or take it out entirely. pH continues to go higher as long as it is in.

I had not thought of running the pump at night vs. day to get the little extra cooling.

I guess my next test will be to reduce pump time and increase Cl output from the cell to see how much impact there is on pH. I liked running the pump all day (at only 120 watts). Water is crystal clear even with sand filter.

Good point about the water movement. We normally keep the pump RPMs lower. But if guests are over I can make sure the water is more agitated. Still... I will daydream about having smooth plaster.

But new pools typically do not have this problem? I can't imagine a pool light company putting a picture of my lighted pool in a brochure.
