Thanks for the tip...I'll give it a try. The metal version of the pentair tool is north of $250!

    Opinion Needed

I have a 14 year old Pentair Tagelus TA100D (original sand) that has started leaking between the filter body and the adapter buttress. The buttress requires a special tool (like a closed hex wrench) and I'm told that it could damage the filter trying to break it free after 14 years. The o-ring...

    Air in the lines...

Thanks....I'll start with the easy stuff on the equipment pad (pump lid and drain o-rings). Pressure gauge on the pump could be the issue since it hasn't worked for years and hasn't had any attention at all. As far as listening, my wife is the one with the bionic ears so I may have to get her...

    Air in the lines...

I normally run my 3/4 hp pump around 14 hours a day for my 24K gallon pool...sometimes more or less depending on conditions. Lately I've been having issues with the pump restarting after it's been shut down over night. The body of the pump is empty of water and the pump struggles to prime...

Pay Me Now or Pay Me Later

I've been troubleshooting my AutoPilot and it looks like my Digital 220 control board is shot. I could limp through the season by running the pump 24/7 and adding my own chlorine until next sprint or I could bit the bullet now and get a replacement. I'm just wondering if there were pros/cons...

    Cayman or Dark Blue Covers

Hi all...we're getting a new liner this weekend and it's obvious that our old covers for the skimmers and eyeballs need new life as well. Originally, the color was called Cayman Blue but our pool guy can't seem to find that color. Cayman...which is a light blue or a dark blue would be much...

    Pump Losing Water

No visible water coming out except when it shuts off. There's a small burst of water that that shoots out of the lid and that's it. Have heard that's common but not sure. I have it on pretty tight.

    Pump Losing Water

Greetings all....I'm hoping to get some help with figuring out why my pump strainer basket loses water every time I shut the pump off. It's never done this before and I just replaced the O-ring on the clear lid and that didn't help. The pump self primes when it comes on but somethings not...

    Which way should I go????

OK....but what could possibly still be in there ....alive.... after 3 days at high chlorine levels? Just wondering, hopefully tonight will be the night all is good :-)

    Which way should I go????

This is the third day I've kept my pool at shock level and it is still losing chlorine. Water looks fantastic but have lost from 12 down to 8 in about 4 hours. Did not pass the OCLT Wednesday night or last night. Do I have to stay at this until I pass the OCLT? I mean keeping at shock level...

    Which way should I go????

Thanks duraleigh.....just make sure you send out the refills I ordered yesterday. Between clearing up a swamp when we opened back in April and now this, Im blowing through the chlorine test materials :-)

    Which way should I go????

I took the initial advice...sort of(raised my FC to 6 by accident)...and ran with it. Maybe the results will not matter. I did not run the pump. This morning, FC is 3.5 so apparently something is eating my chlorine. So at this point is it better to go ahead with the shock process or should I...

    Which way should I go????

Pool looks good but there is no FC or CC. Here are results using my TF100 kit: FC=0 CC=0 PH=7.4 PH=7.6 TA=80 CH=vinyl pool CYA=30 Salt 2900 Had one pool store tell me I needed stabilizer and another said I had ammonia and needed to shock. I'm not even sure how you know if you have ammonia or...

Confession of a Cloudy Water Pool Owner

Update: After almost two weeks of running the pump around the clock, adding a little DE and backwashing when the pressure is up, we can finally see the main drain covers. It's not pristine yet, but it is continually getting better. Man....this has definitely tried my patience! Thanks for the...

Confession of a Cloudy Water Pool Owner

OK....no chlorine loss overnight and SWG was off. Pool is just a little more clear after running about 12 hours with the DE media. Backwashed this morning and added a little more DE. This is where the pool stores say "flock it" and vacuum to waste. What say the experts? The water has looked...

Confession of a Cloudy Water Pool Owner

I got the following readings from my TF-100 test kit FC 4 CC 0 TA 100 PH 7.6 CYA 55 Salt 3500 I have an autopilot but I think the trisensor is squirrely and it's on order. The temp says 74 and salt reads 3000...then 2700 (add 82 lbs) five minutes later. I have calibrated several times already...

Confession of a Cloudy Water Pool Owner

Hey Jason....I had always heard that over time, the rough edges on the sand get smoothed out like a polished rock over time and doesn't do a good job any longer. Are you saying that's an urban legend???? I really have no idea....just asking.

Confession of a Cloudy Water Pool Owner

I do have some of that I can try. I was just wondering if maybe the sand isn't quite doing the job anymore. I guess it's smarter to make sure all chemistry is good before replacing the sand but adding the DE is easy. Thanks for the reminder!

Confession of a Cloudy Water Pool Owner

Confession #2: I knew I needed to post numbers using my "TFP" certified test kit. I just got to work and thought i should go ahead and get the beating over with which leads to confession #3. (I will post numbers when I get home from work) Confession #3: I am not a patient pool owner. There...

Confession of a Cloudy Water Pool Owner

First...I am throwing myself at the mercy of the forum. I have to confess that I purchased...and used....a clarifier  and something called pool magic which is probably a more expensive version of ultrabrite   (Neither worked!) Let the beating commence.... :whip: If...

    The magic of disappearing water!!!

UPDATE.....It wasn't magic after all. My wonderful bride spent an afternoon in the pool with a pair of goggles and a snorkel and she was able to find two small tears in our liner. They weren't large, but they would suck the food coloring right out of the pool. Did a bucket test last night and...

    The magic of disappearing water!!!

As a matter of fact...I do have returns (2) In fiberglass steps and another 2 in a fiberglass buddy seat. However, I kept the step returns plugged from winterizing until recently and we were still losing water. I am curious as to why you ask????

    The magic of disappearing water!!!

Our 34K gallon, IG vinyl pool loses about an inch of water per day. A bucket test showed little or no overnight loss compared to about 1/2" pool loss (with no pump running) The daytime loss is about the same. Have tried to check around the pool with food coloring, goggles etc. but have found...

    Mystery Cloud

Got up early this morning and everything tested great. SWG is back on and stabilizer is in a nylon hanging from the ladder. BTW....is it ok to either put the nylon in the skimmer basket so it has water running over it all the time or just pour the dry stabilizer in the skimmer? Pool is...

    Mystery Cloud

My FC dropped by two for the second night in a row so I guess I'm back to trying to keep the level up in the hot sun today and hope it holds tonight. Just a question....I am sort of lazy on the weekends so I got up before dawn to get the water sample in a plastic bottle and then tested it...
