I have a Hayward Swimclear Cartridge Filter and I've realized that my air relief tube filter has been missing for at least a couple years. The part is CX3000JI. I'm not sure if it's necessary for me to replace it or not. Is this part simply there to prevent any big debris from getting lodged in the air relief valve or does it serve some other purpose as well? Would it affect the pressure gauge readings or anything like that?

The air relief tube is on the debris side of the filter and it's main purpose is to allow air to escape from the filter out the returns. It usually has a filter on it so that debris does not get past the filter into the clean side of the return plumbing. And no, it doesn't affect the pressure gauge as that is on the debris side of the filter as well.

Thanks very much for this. So the only risk to not replacing it is that some debris might sneak back into the pool via the return lines?

Is the tube still there and just the filter missing or the whole thing is missing? Either way, yes, just debris getting past although it will clog the hole anyway.

Yes the tube is still there, it's just that filter. I have been doing the openings/cleanings myself the last couple years. I noticed that screen in a YouTube video on my model filter this morning and realized I'd never seen it before on mine. Glad it's not a big deal. Thank you.
