I am noticing that my ET is not controlling the heater in a funny way. I can set heat to 92* on the ET settings, but if the heater is set at 90*. It will shut off. Only way to hook up heater to panel is by fireman's switch. No other connections are available.
Am I right in guessing that the water temp reading and the setting on the heater, overrides the temp setting on the ET panel?
If so, should I up the heater's temp setting and then would be able to control the temp from the ET's heater setting? Say put heater on 100*, but have ET setting on 90* or so.
Would the ET then control on/off of heater based on it's water temp and not the heater's internal water temp?

TIA

When you connect the ET to a heater using the firemans switch, the thermostat on the Heater should be set to its max. Typically that is 104F. Then the ET setting will manage the heater temperature.

Thanks. I've had them set the same and seems my ET's water temp was off a couple degrees. So I adjusted that but then was wondering why heater would kick off.

I figured that would be the work around. Sad that I spent all this money for automation, and still have to improvise settings. Maybe I was told this by installer but I sure don't remember anything specific like that.

Almost all heaters work this way. Thermostatic control via a closed relay is the only way to make heater control available to all automation systems without having to maintain and provide a set of digital controls. RS-485 is starting to show up in newer heater models (Pentair and Raypak) as well as WiFi controls but that greatly increases the complexity of the control system. A simple open/close relay is a lot easier to debug and repair than bad data connection …
