New EVO 614i Robot Pool Cleaner Review

Brandon,

If you are shopping for an EVO, or any other robot cleaner, on Amazon, you are shopping in the wrong place.

My go to place is Marina Pool and Spa.. Best price, no tax and free 2 day shipping. You have to call them for it to count as an in-house sale.

I did call and talk to them I just have not made a purchase yet. I wanted to do some research on the evo robot so just using Amazon for reviews.

I'm still very happy with the EVO after a few months of use. If it had a set of pleated fine filters, it would be perfect, but otherwise I'll just have to live with it. I will say, I haven't had a tangle yet with the EVO cleaner, unlike the S200 variant it replaced. That Doheny discovery needed the cord untangled about every third run.

6,

Most robot manuals say not to use an extension cord, due to safety concerns. The robot would work just fine, what they are afraid of is that the robot could pull the power supply into the water, which would be a bad thing.

If you can mount the power supply to a wall, or something else, that prevents it from moving, then using an extension cord to provide 120 Volts AC to the power supply should not be an issue.

You can't make the cord between the robot and the power supply any longer than it is.

Why do you ask???

Thanks,

Jim R.

Just curious, what type of filter does the EVO filter have?
It has a fine mesh, similar to a goldfish net or paint strainer. More than adequate for regular cleaning. My pool's system was designed in a way that allows some DE powder to flow back in the pool when I clean the pumps basket. Probably easily solved if I spent some time to figure out what series of three way valves to close, but I don't have to clean them very often anyway. Our Dolphin S200 had the option of pleated filters that did a better job of picking up the DE powder. Besides that, I really have no complaints.

Killer,

I'm told the EVO now has a finer screen mesh filter... I see it on line at Marina pool and spa, but I have not seen it in person. At first glance it looks like the basket that comes with the EVO, but since the basket has no actual P/N printed on it, it can't tell if there is an actual difference or not. :(

I suggest that you order one and tell us if it works better or not...

Edit..

P/N R0897800 - Fine Filter Canister
P/N R0898000 - General Purpose Canister (Comes Standard)

Thanks to Chuck for the P/N's...

Thanks,

Jim R.

Thanks for the response. With all the fine dust that we get here in the desert, I wonder if any non-pleated filter would suffice, or would the dust just pass through the mesh?

Do you know if you have to call them for the TFP discount as well or is there a specific online code?

My Dolphin Premier is starting to spit out parts. It is 4 years old so not going to be worth fixing.

All sales with Marinas Pool and Patio for robots must be done by phone in order to get TFP pricing. This is also a requirement in order to complete a brick and mortor sale, since companies like Dolphin or Pentair do not allow most of their robots to be bought through online sales. Dolphin did create special models that can be sold through online retailers like Doheny or Amazon, but they don't have the Maytronics / Dolphin standard names.

This is the kind of debris I'm getting in the basket when I run it a couple times a week. I don't have a lot of trees around my pool, so I mostly get spiders, worms and travertine stacked stone deterioration dust.

R,

The one I have (EVO 614iQ) initially had no scheduling at all, or automation mode.

But that has now changed and you can schedule it to run using the app. It allows you to set up a daily schedule for each week day. And, unlike the Dolphin, it does not shut off after a week, it just keeps rerunning the same weekly schedule.

Thanks,

Jim R.
