Thanks. I tried rotating counterclockwise. It turns but the knob runs into the side and keeps me from turning enough to get it out. Thoughts? It should be removed when not in use as there should be a basket in the skimmer to catch leaves and big stuff. You don’t want to suck lots of big debris into your plumbing as that can cause a suction side blockage.
Don't recognize that skimmer. A picture of the skimmer lid would help. It could be an internal diverter to adjust flow between skimmer and main drain. American Pool Products Admiral skimmers worked that way, the main drain hook-up was a horizontal port in the suction line below the skimmer bottom. It may just pull out. They don’t typically screw in … it’s usually just a friction fit. You just pull up on it and it should pop out ….
@1poolman1 … is there anything special about this? Looks like the standard diverter that comes with all suction cleaners …
It's a Zodiac MX8 as you suspected. I haven't had the home for long and the wrinkles were there when I got it. PH is currently a 7.7 and alkalinity is at 100, so hopefully we've stopped adding to the damage. What cleaner is this?
The liner wrinkles look like the type of wrinkles caused by low pH.
What is the TA and pH?
The skimmer looks like a Hayward skimmer.
The cleaner adaptor should pull out or unscrew.

The handle is different, but this could be the part for that Hayward skimmer (almost identical to the APP Admiral skimmer part) (Hayward #SPX1075L):Here is a photo of the lid.
