How can I fix broken teeth on a deck drain?

One of the drains on my concrete pool deck has broken teeth that have caused a large hole on the deck floor. I'm afraid my dogs are going to get their paws stuck in the large hole.
The drain cover appears to be attached with PVC glue and the piece is about 2 inches deep into the drain-pipe.

It seems impossible to remove and replace.

Can anyone offer some advice on how I may be able to DIY repair this myself or will I need to call a professional?

CAREFULLY!! I would break off the rest of the teeth to start with and smooth that area down so there are not shape areas.

Idea number 1-use a tiny pick type tool and score along the edge to see if you can get the glue loose. I would along the top outside and angle the tool so you can pick along the under edge. The idea is to get that outside ring up and out so you can find or make something to sit over that hole.

idea number 2-Dremel tool with something on the end that you can control. Again we want the top edge off so you can sit the replacement down inside the hole using the white tube as a lip to hold it on.

Ideas for replacement covers-Measure it good. Call Inyopool.com and ask them for help in finding a replacement. If they can't help you then think about making one out of wood or stone.

Until you find a replacement I would put a heavy flower pot over it to keep the dogs safe. The bigger the pot the less chance someone will not see it and trip on it.

Thanks @kimkats for the ideas!
I'll start with your first idea and see how it goes. Then move to #2 if it gets too tedious by hand.

Didn't have a clue where to start and now I have some direction.

Thanks!

It's probably not glued.

Get some pliers and pull it out. It might be this:

NDS 4 in. Styrene SPT Drain Grate is ideal for use with sewer and drain pipes. Fits standard 4 in. Sewer and Drain Fittings. Styrene construction is durable, lightweight, economical and resistant to corrosion and chemicals. Suitable for use with sewer and drain fittings.

I would be very surprised if it were glued in, probably just wedged with dirt collecting over time. Just break the bars, then cut through it from the inside in two places (across from each other) and peel it out. If it is glued, you may have to use a heat gun. An identical replacement can be had at any home improvement store.

I would stuff a rag inside the drain and using a chisel, start cutting the cover to pieces. Chisel it all out and replace with a new cover. It looks like a standard 4 inch drain, so there should be plenty of replacement options. There is really no repairing a plastic piece like this one. It would just break again very easily.
