It appears as if it's not the SWG interacting with something in the water. The returns are flowing clear and the SWG is indicating that its generating. Looks like I'll be emptying out the sand filter and checking the laterals tomorrow. Thanks guys.

Pool guy told me that some folks are now changing to glass instead of sand. Is it worth the price difference?

Getting sand in the pool and after researching the issue I learned the laterals in the Pentair TA 60 need changing. Is it something a novice like myself can watch a video on how its done and do it or is it worth the expense (several hundred dollars) to have the pool guys do it? If I do it, any tips?

Thanks. I went to a pool store today and they explained the valve where the blue hose connects to the filter need to be open so the backwash can flow out. Appreciate the help and want to say there is a lot of good info in here.
