Is there any downside to raising ph using aeration?

Hello, After watching this video I tried/tested sticking the outlet of an industrial vacuum cleaner into the pool and that created a lot of turbulence (literally like a volcano erupting). ph is currently sitting at 6.8 (or thereabouts, it's a bit hard to tell as test is limited at this level)...

Not using the pool for a few months

Thanks for the answers. At the current rate he is losing about 20-25cm of water each week. He has been trying to maintain water level to keep the equipment running but this is getting very difficult, expensive, and wasteful, so the current thinking is just to let the pool drain. He bought the...

Not using the pool for a few months

Hello all, I am asking a question for a friend, so please ignore the info in the signature. He has quite a large in-ground liner pool with a sand-filter, SWG, and obviously a pump. The liner has deteriorated and requires replacement. Unfortunately there will be a few months until he can get...

    Calcium hypochlorite & doser

I'll admit that I have never paid much attention to CH. I have had issues testing CH with my Taylor kit with the first step always come with very faint pinkish color. I checked this with Taylor and was told it was probably due to metal interferences (could be because we use main water copper...

    Calcium hypochlorite & doser

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question, but I was wondering if someone could comment on: - is there any issue with using calcium hypochlorite on a daily basis as a pool sanitizer? - and if it is ok, has there been any attempts to build an automated doser for calcium...

    How does SWG work exactly?

I mean, I understand the concept. What I am trying to understand is how the electronics/electricity is making the plates work? The main control unit of our Astral Viron 18 has died, just a few months after replacing the cell with a brand new one. I was wondering if I could actually build a DIY...

    Salt cell not working?

One of the shops around here. The Taylor kit I have doesn't test salt levels. The previous test was on 26/Oct showing 6848ppm and today (16/Nov) showing 10,000ppm, that's without adding any salt and adding more water! Everything is out of whack in this test, this shop uses something called...

    Salt cell not working?

During winter the SWG was set to low production so I did not notice the issue. I have only started noticing this issue a few weeks ago with water temp around 22 deg, weather has been pretty hot over the last couple of weeks and the temp now is 28 deg. You are right 6800 is very high, we've had...

    Salt cell not working?

Hello all, Recently we have had issues with the SWG unit showing low salt warnings. Testing for salt levels we see good amount of salt (6800 ppm). I would immediately suspect the salt cell due to its age (6.5 years old), but ... The issue is not consistent, sometimes the low salt warning...

    Just being curious...

Thanks for the link, it definitely helped with my questions. One more question that I now have from ready the article, it says: "The levels above assume that you are testing water from a well-circulated pool, with a decent flow distribution. Most home pools with pumps running on high meet this...

    Just being curious...

Thanks guys for the replies. Perhaps I missed something regarding CYA. Assuming CYA of 80ppm, the target FC is 6ppm and SLAM FC is 31ppm. This is quite a jump from 6 to 31 using the same CYA levels, wouldn't that make the chlorine far more effective and damaging?

    Just being curious...

Hello, I have no issues with my pool, the TFP way has been working great for more than a year now!!! Just two questions that I am curious about: - What if in the middle of a SLAM, with say 25ppm FC, I will jump into the pool for a short swim? What would the effect on my skin, eyes, hair? - Is...

    Increasing CH without increasing chlorine?

Dear forum members, I have tested by pool water and my CH needs to be raised. It is currently measuring ~130ppm and I would like it around ~275ppm. Checking pool math it seems I need to add something like 5kg of Calcium Chloride. The problem is (if I understand this right) that this will also...
