Metal Stains

Thanks for the reply! I see that the post you quoted has been quoted a number of times on the forum but I hadn't come across it until now. Soon after your reply I did step #2 with dry acid in a sock. I expected it to work since the stains also lifted using vitamin c (step #1). As I mentioned...

    Metal Stains

I moved into a house in the fall almost 5 years ago that has a gunite pool with fiberglass walls. I treated the pool with Baquacil for the first year but with the help of everyone on this form I did a chlorine conversion at the start of the second year. It has worked out great and I'm...

I seem to be pretty close to getting everything balanced. Here are my current numbers: FC: 5 CC: 0 TC: 0 PH: 7.6 TA: 80 CH: 230 CYA: 25 So it looks like I need to get CH up a bit more and I'm waiting on CYA to stabilize a bit before doing any adjustment. I added it in the middle of last week...

Don't worry - I'll still have plenty to do. I've been neglecting my lawn and garden since I started this last week. My wife has a long list as well that should keep me busy all summer!

Alright - I'm finally there. Made it through the conversion checklist except for the final item - balancing the water. Here are my most recent results: FC 8.5 CC 0 TC 8.5 PH 7.0 TA 50 CH 200 CYA 0 I've started adding CYA in a sock in front of a return jet. I'm shooting to get it around 30...

I haven't quite reached the 1 ppm loss but I'm hopeful for tonight. Last night I lost 1.5 FC. between 11:00 p.m and 6:15 a.m. Once I'm past step 7 I'll post a full set of results. Thanks.

Yesterday the sunlight wiped out my Chlorine throughout the day. I was only able to measure FC of 1 at 5:00 pm after raising it to 15 in the morning. I added enough to raise it back up but didn't measure again until this morning. Anyway, this morning I measured FC at 16.5 and CC at 0.5. Now...

Everything is looking good and I've managed to vacuum up all the gunk from the bottom. At this point the pool is clear and I'm maintaining FC at 15. CC has gone from 5 on Friday to 2 on Saturday, 1.5 on Sunday, and 1 today. Seems like I'm close to reaching the second milestone on the shock...

    need advice on opening pool

Good news! Over the course of today, the pool went from barely being able to make out the bottom of the shallow end to totally clear. I'm going to keep holding FC at 15 and I have a bit of cleaning to do now that I can see the floor again. I'd post test results but I don't need any advice on...

Richard320 - Now that you mention it, I remember reading that the PH test would be inaccurate with high levels of chlorine. Thanks for reminding me. I won't waste my supplies testing it again until I'm done and can let my FC drop down again.

Here's some pics right after I added it. You can see the cloud as it progresses through the deep end. IMG_4127.jpg[/attachment:3qt8l9it] IMG_4128.jpg[/attachment:3qt8l9it] IMG_4129.jpg[/attachment:3qt8l9it]

Here are some pics. These are before adding any thing. In the second one you can see the drain in the deep end so the water was pretty clear. IMG_4122.jpg[/attachment:3s5e61ww] IMG_4124.jpg[/attachment:3s5e61ww]
