Ok so….they are not interested in draining/refill. Without doing that - what should the next step be? Keep at SLAM level (using 10% liquid chlorine) until pool is clear green and then sequester the copper? I know a drain/refill is best but I can’t make them do it.

We need to balance the pool for the season (just opened it) and also have metal stains on the steps. I know how to SLAM and I've read the AA treatment. I know that raising the chlorine will just make the staining worse - so do I treat the stains and then slowly slam (is that even possible?) or...

Okay - I feel like I know the answer to this but I just had to ask - should I be testing calcium hardness for my vinyl liner pool? I have an inground, 35K gallon, grecian shape, vinyl pool....live in central Arkansas. Our current liner is probably 10-12 years old....it is getting quite faded...

Thanks Bama! Your response reinforced my gut instinct that shocking now would be a waste of time, effort, and bleach. Hopefully the tree can come down soon and they can get back to enjoying the pool!

So my friends got to enjoy their sparkly pool for approximately 10 seconds before things got ugly. At the end of my last post (see "Converted friend to BBB - now fighting metal stains") I posted a picture of some sludge that was in the pool the day after adding sequestrant. My first thought...
