Trying to help a friend…going from bad to worse?

Ok so….they are not interested in draining/refill. Without doing that - what should the next step be? Keep at SLAM level (using 10% liquid chlorine) until pool is clear green and then sequester the copper? I know a drain/refill is best but I can’t make them do it.

Trying to help a friend…going from bad to worse?

Hey all! I’ve been reading through various other threads and I have a theory but want some input before moving on. My friends have an inground, vinyl lined pool. They don’t know exact volume but the estimate is 40,000 gallons. (It’s a little bigger than mine which is 35,500). Anyway they’ve...

Trouble balancing chlorine/sequestrant - stains keep reappearing - help!

I posted a week or two ago about some staining upon opening of the pool. Did a SLAM, got the pool gorgeously clean, lowered chlorine, added polyquat, did a big AA treatment and followed up with Jacks Blue Magic. It was awesome to watch it get clearer literally by the minute. Things looked...

Unbelievable test results - bad reagents?

Well I feel stupid!!!!! How did I forget it goes from green to pink? Good grief. Ok. Well at least now I know what to do! Thanks!

Unbelievable test results - bad reagents?

I posted the other day about which to do first - SLAM/balance or treat metals through the AA process. Got advice to balance first so I got out my test kit to see where things stand. 1. Let me start by saying I KNOW I MESSED UP. We did not cover our pool this winter - kept it open and pumps...

Order of treatments? AA vs SLAM

We need to balance the pool for the season (just opened it) and also have metal stains on the steps. I know how to SLAM and I've read the AA treatment. I know that raising the chlorine will just make the staining worse - so do I treat the stains and then slowly slam (is that even possible?) or...

    Calcium in a vinyl pool?

Okay - I feel like I know the answer to this but I just had to ask - should I be testing calcium hardness for my vinyl liner pool? I have an inground, 35K gallon, grecian shape, vinyl pool....live in central Arkansas. Our current liner is probably 10-12 years old....it is getting quite faded...

Here we go again - metal stains reappeared after shocking

This is probably going to be long but I don't know how to tell a short story. Backstory - we have a BBB pool. It's fantastic. Our friends have a pool too. They got fed up with terrible pool service and asked us to help them take control this year. It was incredibly rewarding to see...

    Fighting a losing battle?

Thanks Bama! Your response reinforced my gut instinct that shocking now would be a waste of time, effort, and bleach. Hopefully the tree can come down soon and they can get back to enjoying the pool!

That's a fantastic before and after!!!

    Fighting a losing battle?

So my friends got to enjoy their sparkly pool for approximately 10 seconds before things got ugly. At the end of my last post (see "Converted friend to BBB - now fighting metal stains") I posted a picture of some sludge that was in the pool the day after adding sequestrant. My first thought...

converted a friend to BBB - now treating metal stains

Also I now have before/after pics from shocking! I think it is pretty obvious which is before and which is after.[attachment=1:1lrg378z]green swamp.png[/attachment:1lrg378z] (ignore the sideways orientation!)
