Ok so….they are not interested in draining/refill. Without doing that - what should the next step be? Keep at SLAM level (using 10% liquid chlorine) until pool is clear green and then sequester the copper? I know a drain/refill is best but I can’t make them do it.

We need to balance the pool for the season (just opened it) and also have metal stains on the steps. I know how to SLAM and I've read the AA treatment. I know that raising the chlorine will just make the staining worse - so do I treat the stains and then slowly slam (is that even possible?) or...

Thanks Bama! Your response reinforced my gut instinct that shocking now would be a waste of time, effort, and bleach. Hopefully the tree can come down soon and they can get back to enjoying the pool!

Update - We added sequestrant yesterday evening. The pool looked wonderful - freshly vacuumed, all tests were within normal. This morning, our friends went outside and this stuff was in the bottom of the deep end....she scooped it up and said it was thick and slimy. Could it be the metals...

Need advice... Second summer as a pool owner. We found out about the BBB method about halfway thru last summer and by that point the CYA was already in the 90s. Using the pool calculator and a complete test kit we had the pool sparkling all summer...even with the high chlorine demand...
