    Semi-DIY Build in SE Louisiana

nkrunic .. sorry for late response. I've not been online for some time now. No issues with the tile in steps or at water line. The materials that were recommended to me for installation have worked out well.

What size pumps are you going with? We have a single 3hp and a 2 hp blower motor pushing 12 polystorms (I think they are the 10-15 gpm models) and we are happy with the flow. If the motors are the issue, they could probably bump that up at little cost. They might have to beef up the plumbing...

Question: Glass Mosaic Tile. The Good and the Bad?

Yup ... forgot that. Recommend you request Laticrete 254.

Question: Glass Mosaic Tile. The Good and the Bad?

Paper faced is definitely the way to go. You should also ask your builder if they will install w/ a moisture barrier. Glass manufacturers "highly" recommend or even require moisture barrier for warranty. My opinion (just opinion) on all the concern over glass tile popping off is installation...

Another New Build in South Louisiana

Very nice! I like the shape, extra benches, and deep tanning ledge. How deep is the tanning ledge going to be?

Everything I've heard about palms is that they're ideal for pools. Root ball instead of long reaching roots and no leaf drop. I think hibiscus would look good there also ... if it can handle BR winters. I live in Slidell and usually have to cut back hibiscus to the ground every 2-3 years...

    New Austin, TX Owner Build

I'm probably too late for suggestions on some of your earlier questions (just saw this thread), but just wanted to pass on that we went with the 360 on a VS/VF pump and it's working out great for us. We don't run the pump at a higher flow when it's in use. It does not take that much flow...

Wow ... appears to be an excellent builder (FWIW in pictures). As mentioned earlier, clean and precise. Looks like you made a good choice.

I don't have experience with a heat pump, so I can't speak with certainty about those, but I'd be very cautious with going electric. Almost all of my friends/family in this area have gas heaters. The only one that I know of with electric (no gas in neighborhood) almost never runs the heater...

    Lights/electrical question

    * I recommend the low voltage lights. Some say that there's still an electrical risk with either kind (low or regular 110 voltage), but I can't help but think it's better to have less power in the pool. * You will need multiple transformers at the pad to do the conversion from regular...

Major Remodel - travertine over old concrete deck, raise bond beam to match?

Some relatives of mine have just completed a remodel with travertine similar to yours. They had 1.25 inch travertine pavers directly set on the existing concrete concrete (with thinset). Then they had 4" remodel travertine coping placed on top of existing coping with the overhang cut off. I...
