Thanks guys. I am checking FC and CC every day. I'll stay on top of it. Howard

    Here's one for you...cya disappeared.

Hi, We had 5 inches of rain the other day and my pool was flooded with water that came from my neighbors yard. I balanced it the next day and noticed the chlorine for the next few days was disappearing quickly. I also noticed my cya was dropping. After 4 days it has dropped from 40 to 10 and...

Question about Taylor K-2006 kit and pH testing

I can never tell if it's between 7.6 and 8.0 or even higher. If I put in enough to bring it from 8.0 to 7.5 and it's really at 7.6 or 7.8, then I have a bit of a problem, plus I'm lowering my TA unnecessarily. I've worked it out now, so it's quick and easy. If it's 7.6 or above, I start adding...

Serious thought out question about monopersulfate...

Thanks swampwoman. I always appreciate input. Not that I consider your friends incident a mystery to be solved, but I immediately wonder what size mineral pack they used relative to pool size and if they used any additional sources of copper. Maybe an algaecide or something. I've used two...

Serious thought out question about monopersulfate...

Thanks again for sharing your knowledge. Sometimes I seem obstinate, but I'm really just curious and dogged at getting an answer I can understand within my limits.

Question about Taylor K-2006 kit and pH testing

because I really didn't know what the percentage of sulfuric acid was in the R-0005 ( backed in to a 1% solution) I tried mixing 3 parts water with 1 part R-0005. I figured that would put me at a good starting point. As fate would have it my pH was reasonable this morning and I could pretty much...

Question about Taylor K-2006 kit and pH testing

Thanks Chemgeek. I'm going to try your Pool Equations spread sheet. I pretty much came up with a similar set of numbers (i had 9.2 oz of muriatic acid). What threw me was Taylor's listing on the reagent R-0005 as >5%. I then looked at the MSDS sheet and it said from .1 to 5% sulfuric acid...

Question about Taylor K-2006 kit and pH testing

you would think that if you were dealing with a sane person :-) I'm actually just trying to back in to my pH number because I can't read the comparator above 7.4. I normally like to keep my pH at 7.5 and I have no way of telling if it is 7.5 if it's around 7.6 or up. I guess I could run the...

Question about Taylor K-2006 kit and pH testing

I think I'm getting there. Using Taylor's chart for 31.45% Muriatic acid, I looked at the demand for 1 drop of reagent at 20,000 gallons and it came up with 18.4oz of acid. I multiplied the result by .9 since my pool is only 18,000 gallons and that came to 16.5oz. I then used the Pool Calculator...

Question about Taylor K-2006 kit and pH testing

Thanks tim5055. I'm trying to back in to the numbers using Taylor's acid demand charts, but I don't trust myself that much, so it would be nice to have someone confirm any findings I make. Howard

Serious thought out question about monopersulfate...

Thanks cowboycasey. I've been doing a little reading on this site about SWG. Sounds interesting and I'll keep it in the back of my head. Thanks again, Howard

Question about Taylor K-2006 kit and pH testing

I mentioned in another thread that I use a Hanna HI-98128 pH meter, but always use the Taylor K-2006 kit to double check it. I know I'm doing it twice, but I have a reason. One, is I like the second decimal place readout of the Hanna. It doesn't make any difference except I can kind of watch...

Serious thought out question about monopersulfate...

Thanks Chemgeek and Ping. Being in Maryland I do have to drain 1/3 of my water every fall. Actually, it's closer to 5,000 gallons than 6,000, but it's close. About the only time I don't use a solar cover is in August. As fate would have it, it's only 63 degrees today in my neck of the woods...

Serious thought out question about monopersulfate...

Thanks pooldv, I do use a deox reagent when testing my chlorline levels. I used to measure the level of the MPS as chlorine and found that after 2 days, the deox wasn't necessary any longer. Generally, I don't have an issue with CC either way. For me I would welcome the drop in pH. That was...

Serious thought out question about monopersulfate...

At least I think I've thought this out. During a discussion yesterday in another thread, I mentioned I use a mineral pack. I've used one for 13 years and this year decided to make a run without it. In conjunction with it, I used monopersulfate. My wife is a bookkeeper through and through, so as...
