Pool Pillows for winterizing - what do they do?

These answers seem to imply that I need to keep the top of the cover more or less dry. Is that correct? We often have a foot or more of standing water in places on the cover, which we drain before opening in the spring. Is there a reason to drain the cover often?

Pool Pillows for winterizing - what do they do?

When we closed last month we placed a pool pillow under the cover as we always do. Then my wife asked, what does that actually do? And while we're at it, how big should it be and how much should it be inflated?

    What size cover?

I never know what size cover to get for our 25ft round above ground. Is there actually a correct size? What should I be shopping for? They only last a year or two before the grommets tear out anyway. Maybe I'm doing something wrong.

And she says "Honey, the pool isn't green anymore"

She thinks I just poured a ton of chlorine in. What she doesn't know was that I bought the last 4 cases of 12.5% at our nearby Ocean State and did 2 1/2 days of SLAM (and probably 1 or 2 more to go). It's amazing how if you have the wherewithal to follow those simple directions your wife might...

    How to replace the skimmer?

    How to replace the skimmer?

Well, I got the new skimmer in. The problems didn't start until i started filling the pool up to the skimmer level. So I guess something didn't fit right. Water's dripping from around the new gasket. So I guess I have to drain it some and start over. I'm guessing I have to make the hole a...

    How to replace the skimmer?

I wish I'd read @phonedave's good advice before I ordered parts online. Even so, I lucked out. I also mismeasured. I was prepared to cut and drill. But the new Hayward part seemed like it fit the existing hole and the screw holes. Boy was I surprised! Like with most pool related things I have...

Too much CYA, what to do?

I measured. I must have measured wrong. I should have measured twice. I added 4lbs and now my CYA is up around 60. Other than emptying half the pool is there a way to get it back down to a manageable number? I'm fine with emptying half the pool, but there's a drought going on.

    How to replace the skimmer?

It turns out the Hayward SP1091LX is just a little bigger across, and the screw holes don't match up , but I feel as long as the skimmer isn't smaller than the current one I can make it work. Any argument there? Hayward is 5 15/16 wide, whereas mine is 5 3/4. And the Hayward screw holes are all...

    How to replace the skimmer?

Thank you. I have my dimensions written down and finding it is devilishly difficult to find a match. I called Inyo but they don't have a way to look up by size. So 'll just continue to google. Maybe I just need to get close. top side 5 3/4 x 5 1/2 Screw Holes 2.25 across the top and 2.0...

    How to replace the skimmer?

I need to replace the old skimmer that developed a hairline crack down the side last winter. The Doheny Skimmer System, the Hayward Dyna Flow, and the Swimline 8940 all look similar. Do skimmers all come in a standard size and they'll just fit a 5 3/4 inch wide hole? Or is it going to get more...

    Need to replace the skimmer

I need to replace this water intake assembly. Any advice on what to order, how to measure, steps to take in replacing it, etc. would be appreciated. Our old pool had a plastic dam that covered the intake that seemed to do a good job keeping the water out over winter. But, again, I'm not sure...

    3 day SLAM

@dozer - Starting off, the water quality, I could almost see the bottom, and there was a layer of slime accumulated, but not many leaves. At first vacuuming it looked like our cartridge filter had failed, so I replaced it. I set my CYA at 40, (It was zero to start with), adjusted TA and pH where...
