New Install -- FC at 8

Being new to the SWG I really haven't done much to perfect the spa situation. I haven't even checked it FC level independently. I assume it's going to be higher then the 8ppm that the main pool has but my main focus was getting the main pool setup to my ideal settings. I did get the CYA to 80...

Problems - First round with TFT kit

I would test after 24hrs. but I wouldn't use result to add more stabilizer to go all the way to 80. If you are at 60 or above then wait a week and retest just to make sure before adding more if you are shooting for 70. I just started my first SWG and have it reading around 70 so I'm holding it...

New Install -- FC at 8

I have just started my SWG this last weekend at 25% for my circupool edge 40 for a 23k pool and with CYA-70 I'm still at FC-8.5 as of last night. This is in TX heat. Pump is currently running 24/7 @ 1800 rpm. Lower RPM and I loose the spa spill over. As TP once sang- I won't back down.

I think I finally got the SWG going (after months of struggle)

Just FYI the only way to remove CYA is through loss of the water. Bacteria, algae, and other contaminates won't lower it. You may have had a bad reading?

SWG install.... Looking good vs. performance?

Thanks Jim- I'm not thinking the low flow condition would be a problem but what about when the spa is in use and the pump is running wide open? I'll probably go with what looks best because the spa won't be used that much and the friction loss can't make that much of a differnce.

SWG install.... Looking good vs. performance?

I guess I'm in the middle. If it looks like Crud but is 2% better I will go with the 98% nice looking install. If it's a big difference then I'd go with function.

Trouble with SLAMming - been doing this for years and never had this happen

Chlorine consistently above 16 This is why I didn't ask.........

10% pressure increase. You can go higher but the flow will drop off so you will have slower cleaning. I wouldn't set an alarm to check it in the middle of the night but was just saying as a general rule. I have always used a DE filter so you would have to get a sand filter person to help with...

SWG install.... Looking good vs. performance?

I've just received my Edge-40 today and was thinking about the install. I can make it look cleaner if I use four to six elbows or I can make it look like a retrofit without them. Using a VS pump on a low flow rate I don't think the velocity will be high enough for the 90's to create much...

Trouble with SLAMming - been doing this for years and never had this happen

I've heard of this before. Try putting a little DE in the filter and keep backwashing as it starts the pressure climb. I would use 10% increase if you want to get it cleared fast. You may have a filtration issue so if you see plumbs of white DE coming out of the supply jets then I would take...

    New Pool with leak

I would plug skimmer and see what the loss is. Do you have a jar or something that you can use as an evaporation gauge? We have had massive winds in Texas and my evaporation is about an inch per day. Sounds like you could have a skimmer leak though since your loss slows after it passes skimmer...

    Best strategy

I read some of Chem Geek (Richard's) posts and now my eyes are crossed but I do believe he states that the suggested range of FC to CYA puts them in equilibrium so going over that level will allow more unbound FC's thus they won't be protected from the UV. Unless Chem Geek or someone else with a...

    Best strategy

One thing that could be the cause of huge FC loss is that I think the CYA stabilizes the FC against UV loss as long as you are within recommended FC range. If you add excess chlorine then the stabilizer doesn't protect as well and you will lose the excess FC very quickly in a high UV...

    Cloudy Water

Shut off the breaker and remove the basket lid. Feel around the impeller and see if there is a twig or anything caught in it. More then likely it's a bad board and will be covered under warranty. Mine was and Pentair did a great job of swapping it out so even if your PB doesn't take care of this...
