New Install -- FC at 8

Being new to the SWG I really haven't done much to perfect the spa situation. I haven't even checked it FC level independently. I assume it's going to be higher then the 8ppm that the main pool has but my main focus was getting the main pool setup to my ideal settings. I did get the CYA to 80...

Problems - First round with TFT kit

I would test after 24hrs. but I wouldn't use result to add more stabilizer to go all the way to 80. If you are at 60 or above then wait a week and retest just to make sure before adding more if you are shooting for 70. I just started my first SWG and have it reading around 70 so I'm holding it...

New Install -- FC at 8

I have just started my SWG this last weekend at 25% for my circupool edge 40 for a 23k pool and with CYA-70 I'm still at FC-8.5 as of last night. This is in TX heat. Pump is currently running 24/7 @ 1800 rpm. Lower RPM and I loose the spa spill over. As TP once sang- I won't back down.

I think I finally got the SWG going (after months of struggle)

Just FYI the only way to remove CYA is through loss of the water. Bacteria, algae, and other contaminates won't lower it. You may have had a bad reading?

SWG install.... Looking good vs. performance?

Thanks Jim- I'm not thinking the low flow condition would be a problem but what about when the spa is in use and the pump is running wide open? I'll probably go with what looks best because the spa won't be used that much and the friction loss can't make that much of a differnce.

SWG install.... Looking good vs. performance?

I guess I'm in the middle. If it looks like Crud but is 2% better I will go with the 98% nice looking install. If it's a big difference then I'd go with function.

Trouble with SLAMming - been doing this for years and never had this happen

10% pressure increase. You can go higher but the flow will drop off so you will have slower cleaning. I wouldn't set an alarm to check it in the middle of the night but was just saying as a general rule. I have always used a DE filter so you would have to get a sand filter person to help with...

SWG install.... Looking good vs. performance?

I've just received my Edge-40 today and was thinking about the install. I can make it look cleaner if I use four to six elbows or I can make it look like a retrofit without them. Using a VS pump on a low flow rate I don't think the velocity will be high enough for the 90's to create much...

Trouble with SLAMming - been doing this for years and never had this happen

I've heard of this before. Try putting a little DE in the filter and keep backwashing as it starts the pressure climb. I would use 10% increase if you want to get it cleared fast. You may have a filtration issue so if you see plumbs of white DE coming out of the supply jets then I would take...

    New Pool with leak

I would plug skimmer and see what the loss is. Do you have a jar or something that you can use as an evaporation gauge? We have had massive winds in Texas and my evaporation is about an inch per day. Sounds like you could have a skimmer leak though since your loss slows after it passes skimmer...

    Best strategy

I read some of Chem Geek (Richard's) posts and now my eyes are crossed but I do believe he states that the suggested range of FC to CYA puts them in equilibrium so going over that level will allow more unbound FC's thus they won't be protected from the UV. Unless Chem Geek or someone else with a...

    Best strategy

One thing that could be the cause of huge FC loss is that I think the CYA stabilizes the FC against UV loss as long as you are within recommended FC range. If you add excess chlorine then the stabilizer doesn't protect as well and you will lose the excess FC very quickly in a high UV...

    Cloudy Water

Shut off the breaker and remove the basket lid. Feel around the impeller and see if there is a twig or anything caught in it. More then likely it's a bad board and will be covered under warranty. Mine was and Pentair did a great job of swapping it out so even if your PB doesn't take care of this...

I am an idiot and listened to Leslie Pools. Now I need help please!

You are doing a great job! Remember to keep squeezing the sock to get the stabilizer to dissolve faster. I use a DE filter but know that the sand filters do take a bit more time to clear up the water. You can do a search on here regarding adding DE to your sand filter and it will speed up the...

    Pool plumbing question

I agree with Thimble's recomendations. I was thinking that it was when both valves were open at the same time that the air was introduced and when either one on it's own was open that the air was eliminated. It seems to reason that there is leak in the left line from what you posted.

How to Address High pH and TA

Your CC of 1ppm means you have some "stuff" in your pool. I would SLAM it just to be sure. You can do this without lowering your CYA if you don't mind using monster amounts of bleach. Mine has dropped from around 90 to between 50 and 60 over time but if I had to do it all over again I would have...

    Pool plumbing question

The last pic you posted of the skimmer with both lines open is the problem. It's pulling the water in to fast and creating a vortex that is introducing air. I'm to lazy to research it but it looks like your pump is a 2hp Pentair Whisperflo? If so then you may be oversized for only the one...

    Questions regarding SWG implications

Thanks Ping. Feeling kinda stupid about the search as I had searched using lots of phrases and none matched what I needed. When I just entered- intelliflo swg- with no quotes or other words it came up with a slew of threads related to it like you said. I'll read up and again I thank you for the...

Installing an INTELLIFLOW variable speed pump

Can't help with the Aqualink integration but the easiest way I found was to remove the motor from the weir on the existing pump and then cut the upper pipe and then turning the weir to remove the intake after unscrewing the output. Looks from your pics like they added some silicone to the intake...

    Questions regarding SWG implications

Thanks for the reply. Regarding the booster pump- I looked this morning and the booster pump supply tee is actually buried below grade so I guess I could just cap it off above ground and retap somewhere else. I guess regarding the automation I was asking if I could go without using a...

    Liquidator problems

That's because the pucks are very acidic. You can either have acid and CYA added via pucks or use bleach and adjust the pH without the CYA creep. LOL- you beat me to it John :)

    Questions regarding SWG implications

I want to install a SWG and now have more questions regarding the implications of it. First, I have an intelliflo pump and a basic trip switch timer. I have taken the trippers off for the pump since it needs full time electrical current. The booster timer still runs the booster pump for the...

Plz help... Will be going on vaca soon & noticed leak at pump today

It doesn't look like a tough fix. I would first try to crank on the thumb wheel a little more to see if that stops it. If not then I'm sure you can find a replacement gasket nearby at a pool store and it would be worth it to me to spend 10 mins. and $20.00 to not have to deal with it while...

    Question about converting pool

I used to use tabs and my CYA is now at 60. I add about 3 jugs of bleach a week to keep my chlorine around 7-8 ppm. I bet you may have combined chlorine causing the burning eyes and smell. Please do yourself a favor and get a good test kit and then read, read and re-read pool school so you know...

Question about SPA attached to pool..Heater odor.

I had the same issue when mine was new. My spa isn't on the same side as the equipment like yours is but I would smell it when I went near it to adjust it. I think if I remember right that it wasn't until the winter when the heater ran for a long time that it finally went away. If your pool is...

New Member - In need of help

All the DE I've ever purchased has come in 20 or 25 lb boxes. You need to use a scoop or can to add it to the skimmer intake. I would look at the side of the filter housing and see if there is anything that can help determine the amount you need to add. Post here if you can find a make/model but...
