Thanks for the links regarding sulphates. It might be a good idea to update the Recommended Pool Chemicals article to mention the drawbacks/side effects of dry acid similar to the way it describes the side effects of the different methods of raising pH.

I was worried about damaging the HP. What's the lowest pH you would recommend? I'm just guessing that the pH was 7.1-7.2 to start since I was having trouble with the colour matching. However now it's definitely more red so around the 7.5 range which is good enough. But if it's much lower...
