    Main Drain Port Leaking

jimmy, thank you. That is pretty much exactly what I was thinking to do. But I don't think I can do this with the pool filled. I would be totally capable of doing this, but I have never drained a pool completely and don't know if there is any risk to doing so.

    Main Drain Port Leaking

Yes it's leaking at the epoxy blob. You can see the dye being drawn through in my original photo. I suppose I can try to unscrew it, but I doubt it will budge. Most likely there was a crack or something that a previous person tried to seal with epoxy. It lasted a long time because I have...

    Main Drain Port Leaking

ajw, my pool does not have a hydrostatic valve. The port that the hydrostatic valve would screw into is my problem. That port would typically either have a screw in plug, or a hydrostatic valve. Mine has been epoxied closed, which is what you see being tested with dye in the photo. The pool...

    Main Drain Port Leaking

It is a basic pool with one skimmer and one main drain. I appreciate the advise, but closing off the main drain is not an option. This is a service plug inside the main drain housing. Closing off the main drain pipe will not resolve this.

    Main Drain Port Leaking

Had a leak check today because we are losing a lot of water. Found the port inside the main drain is leaking. The previous home owner had the pool refinished and it looks like they did filled the port with epoxy or something. I think these typically just have a threaded plug or something of...

Can you prime off of one suction pipe?

Air in the return would not keep the pump from priming. If the pump primes correctly, any air will get pulled/pushed through and purged completely. How high is your pump compared to the pool (elevation wise)? Have you verified the lid is on and sealed correctly? A leaky lid seal would cause...

Just can't get the dead algae out

I agree, you need about 50% water change at a minimum to reduce CYA. From there, get a good test kit as mentioned, preform a SLAM, and start using liquid chlorine only. Pool store is steering you wrong, and you never really killed all the algae with their method. That's why it "came back"...

    Need Assistance: Pool Turning Greenish/Cloudy

You are just not going to make any headway with CYA that high. Find a way to exchange the water, or struggle with algae. It's pretty much that simple.

What can cause continuous high CC besides algae?

I have posted this solution multiple times over the years. It seems to be common enough that I am surprised it is not talked about more. Glad you found the answer.

What can cause continuous high CC besides algae?

Where do you store your test tube? Years ago, I also got CC readings after 5-6 days of slamming with crystal clear water and no overnight chlorine loss. Turns out the inside of the test tube was dirty. I let some chlorinated water sit in the tube for a few hours and then cleaned the tube out...

    Last Desperate Plea for Help

I'm on the east coast in Palm Beach. Years ago I struggled with the same thing. I did a couple things and these days I have clear water and I rarely brush (gasp, against advice I know). 1. Complete a good SLAM according to the instructions. 2. Verify current CYA level and then run an...

poolvernuegen adding air to pump skimmer basket

My segmented hoses leak air sometimes. Some hoses connect more tightly than others. Also, over time the hoses become brittle and crack. Sometimes the cracks are not noticeable, but they contribute to sucking air into the system. If your pump runs solid without the cleaner connected, then you...

    Pool School repeat!

Ha, good to take it back over. I'm in Palm Beach Gardens myself. Which store was giving this "advice"?

    Is it really that easy?

Piece of cake. I bought a house with a pool about 4 years ago. At first, I used to check my levels almost daily. Now, I check once a week. I installed a salt water generator, so my chlorine level stays very consistent. I am at the point where I add acid on Saturday mornings, and clean the...
