    Black algae species

Yep, my experience with Cyanobacteria (in fish tanks) is that it wipes off very easily but comes back incredibly quickly.

    Black algae species

There are different variants of Audouinella I believe, there is a form that doesn't have hairlike filaments but grows "flatter". A good test would be to get some and put it in Hydrogen Peroxide, it should then turn pink, then white, then die. This stuff prefers a 5ppm - 20ppm CO2 environment I...

Black Algae in Salt Water Pool

Solid chlorine chemicals (regular granulated chlorine) would that be ok on a paler coloured pebblecrete finish?

    Black algae species

Are we sure that black algae is Cyanobacteria? It's strikes me as having characteristics more similar to Audouinella. Cyanobacteria should be able to be nuked easily by chlorine or (expensively, not practical of course) via antibiotics. Thoughts?

Black Algae in Salt Water Pool

I think multiple references are wrong. :-) Interestingly, I read that copper treatment is effective against pool black spot - this is also consistent with the algae species I mentioned above which can also be treated with copper effectively. Although surely adding copper to a pool would create...

    General SWG questions

Hi. Ok, I think I understand. I'm actually troubleshooting a problem where my meter is 100% in one direction but only 75% in the other. I was thinking the four SCRs are in a full wave controlled bridge rectifier configuration and therefore couldn't see how a faulty scr could cause this...

    General SWG questions

Thanks guys. Bgpbucko - so the output knob is controlling the scr gate voltage? My understanding of why an SCR is used in the first place is so that there is a means of controlling at what point the anode/cathode current may pass. So we're basically controlling the duty cycle? The chlorinator...

    Salinity meter imbalance

I found this if it helps: http://www.crystalclearaus.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/RP_EC_Manual.pdf (There is a parts diagram near the end)

    It's a CrystalClear RP3000 SC.

    General SWG questions

Answers would no doubt be in the many other posts but I'm not having much luck finding exactly what I want to know... Some questions... 1. The chlorinator output control knob - is this just a variable resistor? Cranking this to max lowers the resistance thus increasing the current through...

    Salinity meter imbalance

Hi. It's the power supply not the cell. What would cause it to have a higher output in one current direction than the other? Could this be a problem with the bridge rectifier, which would possibly be an inexpensive fix?

    Salinity meter imbalance

Hi, I have an Onga RP3000SC chlorinator. The chlorinator, due to it's self cleaning facility, reverses the polarity every 4 hours (on the hard water setting which I have it set to, 6 hourly on the soft water setting). The output meter reads 100% on the right hand side, but, when it flicks to...

    Storage of pool cleaner

Thanks guys. So it sounds like it's fine to keep the cleaner out of the pool when not in use so long as it's not sitting in the sun somewhere?

    Storage of pool cleaner

I normally keep our Baracuda (Genie 3000) in the pool all the time. I'm thinking I might put it in the box where all my pool equipment is stored, and just put it in the pool when I use it. So, in the storage box, it would be out of the direct sun, but I would need to coil the hose a little to...
