Raypak 406a heater loses power randomly

Hi everyone, Another summer, another season of headaches with this heater. But I'm not ready to plunk down 4 G on a new one. My previous soldering job seems to have held up, but a new loose connection at the board from the temp sensor was giving me problems. Got it going again but it was short...

    Cellulose fiber alternatives?

For the past few years I've been using cellulose fiber in place of DE and have had generally good results. I was looking online to buy some more, and came across some stuff called gransorb which is a cellulose fiber used for cleaning oil spills and the like. I was wondering if something like...

Quick question please: is Jack’s Magic Filter Fiber Stuff the same as Leslie’s Cellulose Fiber?

Isn't fiberfil polyester? I assume it would function like cellulose but if one of the concerns is environmental I don't see how that is a solution.

    Raypak heater - CLK

Apparently my first resolder job was not great, although it did last me four seasons. I just redid it again and it looks to be working. I had forgotten about this and tried to replace the relays at first. Raypak r406a won't spark

    Raypak r406a won't spark

So I cleaned everything I could with a steel wire brush. The only area with some rust was where the ground wire connects near the gas valve. Tried to turn it on and got nowhere, so tried putting a little pressure on the relays thinking that it wasn't a good connection. I got one set of ignition...

    Raypak r406a won't spark

I can't hear the spark at the pilot, other than very briefly once or twice since starting to troubleshoot. I hear (and can feel) clicking at the board, I think at the ignitor contact area but hard to be sure. No spark visible there.

    Raypak r406a won't spark

That's my thought, and I'm trying to figure out what that terminal is called to see if I can replace it (looks like three solder joints).

    Raypak r406a won't spark

OK. I'll report back tomorrow. If that doesn't do the trick, do you have any other thoughts as to where the problem is?

    Raypak r406a won't spark

Maybe I didn't explain it properly. Basically he ran a wire from the ignitor piece on the board to the area on the base of the heater where the ground wire is attached, and looked for the spark there, as a way to get a better view of the spark if it occurred and also to rule out the wire running...

    Raypak r406a won't spark

Honestly don't remember as that plumber was the one who tested that. I believe he pulled the ignition wire from the board and ran a new one from there to the area where the ground wire is connected to the base if that makes sense.

Can you please clarify? Where would I clean? Thanks

    Raypak r406a won't spark

I've replaced this board once before. Not worth it in my opinion to do it again, which is why I'm trying to pinpoint the culprit. If not the relays, I suspect it's the ignitor assembly at the board, but I have no idea what the proper name for that component is or how to find a replacement. I...

    Raypak r406a won't spark

There are two relays on the board. Replaceable with a little soldering!

    Raypak r406a won't spark

I had a plumber over for an unrelated matter and he thought the relays were bad. Unfortunately replacing them didn't help. I hear and feel clicking at the ignitor at the board, but no spark.
