You can use liquid pool shock ... it is just a stronger bleach.
That 10 gallons would raise you FC up above 50ppm likely which is certainly not good for the liner.

Ok, I bought 5 gallon of it, it works out to 18 cents a gallon so it was cheaper than buying at walmart. I'm going to dump the 5 gallons and test with strips. I'm going to add 3 lbs of washing soda first to raise my pH, then do the shock.

Sent from my dumb apple products my work makes me use.

If you would have ordered the TF100, you could have had the kit. You went for the cheaper one and are now waiting. Your best bet is to just WAIT out the kit from AMAZON and let the pool have a gallon of bleach a night until you get it and cancel the pool party. Do NOT let any children swim in a cloudy pool!

Either way I needed the chlorine, it's 15% compared to 8.25% and it's cheaper than buying at Walmart. Yea I went cheaper on my kit because I like to save money. I got the k-2600C for 60.00 so I'd say it's a pretty good deal.

I don't understand why you or anyone else got ticked because I went to the pool store to get a test done. I was trying to compare my aqua check strips numbers to what they had and to see what they recommend. KEEP CALM AND CHIVE ON.

You want to adjust your pH and there is no reason to.

I don't care that you went to the pool store. You can not start the SLAM with pool store test results or dip strips. You're not going to be able to start until you get the test kit AND, you're going to run out of the reagents so you're not saving money. You'll have to order more before your SLAM is complete. That's why we recommend the TF100.

No one is ticked you got the water tested ... but you keep seem to be missing the same points.

Why would you raise the pH when previously you were told to keep it in the low 7s?
Why would you add 5 gallons of 15% chlorine when it would add 43ppm of FC instead of the targeted 24ppm?

It just seems like you are still missing the philosophy here completely.

According to PoolMath I needed to add 342oz of 15% chlorine so I did. That is suppose to take me 0-24pmm FC. I was wrong about raising my pH so I didnt.

He got the 2006C that has the larger bottles and is aimed at commercial pool people. At that price he got, it is a great deal and for sure worth doing.

He's already said that he only added around half. He seems to understand just fine.

I do however share the others' concern (as I mentioned above) as to why he wants to raise the PH when it is perfectly good or even slightly high.

Yes I did mention raising my pH, and I was wrong.
OK ... good, you seem to have corrected yourself from one of the earlier posts.

I did mention raising my pH and I was wrong, so I didn't do it. I've add 2.5 gallons of chlorine. I will work from there. Thank you Vyrolan and jblizzle for listening.

I think you just scared them because you said "I got 5 gallons". A lot of people are used to the pool store method of "I bought X and put it in the pool", but you were just (correctly) getting a lot because you knew you'd need more and could get a good price. Nothing wrong with that. I mean I bought 25 gallons from Menards the other day, but that doesn't mean I dumped it all in when I got home.

The PH thing was worse because I think we were all afraid you'd raise it and then have to lower it and suddenly TFP way would feel like pool store (raise this, lower that, raise it again, lower it again). People here genuinely want your pool to be awesome and also genuinely care about the purity of the approach...all with good reason. Also a bunch of the regulars are following many many MANY threads so you have to forgive the occasional misunderstanding or overreaction. =p

Once again I posted a response based on less than the latest information...

Use pool math to calculate how much bleach to add to your pool to get it to shock level of FC 10 for a CYA 20 pool. I would use that instead of shock. Since you cant start SLAM until you get the test kit, you may as well turn the swg back until you start to SLAM. If its working, it may prevent FC from going to 0.

If you are going to use shock because they sold it to you, you should be able to double check the dosing level on the Pool Math page as well.
