Here is a picture of my pool steps as requested.

Great photo, that's likely doable by Friday. Might still be a little high on FC but safe to swim by Friday. I like the ones where you can barely make out what MIGHT be the first step !!

Need to get new numbers. :testresults:

When you get bleach need to post what % it is. YOU need to look at the pool calculator --> http://www.troublefreepool.com/calc.html and do some math and then post what you think you should add BEFORE you put it in so you can get some feedback as you start to relearn how to take care of your pool.

Need to get going to make that Friday party work :party: :lovetfp:

So I've got the washing soda, do I just broadcast it in the pool or what? Looked at Walmart bleach, it's 91% is that fine?
Soda ash is available as ARM & HAMMER® Super Washing Soda Detergent Booster. Do not confuse this with ARM & HAMMER® laundry detergent! It is sold in the laundry detergent section of most larger grocery stores and some big box stores. It is also sold by pool stores under various names, including PH Increaser, PH Up, Balance Pak 200, etc. Soda ash is best added by pre-dissolving it in a bucket of water and then pouring that slowly in front of a return.

There ya go! I'd add it in halves. If you overshoot, you'll just have to drop pH again with acid.

Before I went to add the washing soda I figured I'd test with the aqua check, here are the numbers. PH 7.8
Fc 0
Ta 180
Stabilizer is 30-50

With the pH being that high I don't think I need to add the washing soda. If anything I need bleach right? I know I need salt too, my lights on. Please guide me.

You want the pH to be in the low 7s prior to starting the SLAM process. If your pH is 7.8, you need to add muriatic acid to lower it and then you will need bleach. Generally best to follow the SLAM processes without the SWG turned on.

Wait, so how did the pH jump from 6.3 to 7.8? You are using the same kit? Did you add anything to the pool after the first test?

Well when I was looking at the strip last night it was dark and I was using a flash light

This is the only acid I can find

Do not add salt without testing the level first. When SWG's fail they tend to report low salt levels and in reality the cell has worn out. You should always verify the salt level with a test to confirm what the SWG is reporting before adding salt.

I think my SWG is the reason I am having all these problems this year, it's 4 years old and I see the bubbles when its generating but I don't think it's do its job.

What is the strength listed on the bottle of acid?

I am not sure I would want to make adjustments based on strips that were so vastly different .......

Like I said when I tested last night it was dark, I was using a flash light and it was fixing to storm. Thats why I did another test this morning before I added the washing soda.

That muriatic acid is 20% Baumé Hydrochloric Acid 31.5% by weight.

What apps is it? Verify it against PoolMath.

looks like the app works, I compared it to the PoolMath. The app is called Pool Pal here is the link for Android, even better its free. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.plb.pool&hl=en

According to the app and pool math I need to do the following
Pool Math shows I need 104oz of bleach to get a 4.0 FC reading, the app says 143oz, not sure why.
Pool Math don't show how much acid I need to add to lower my TA, the app says 17oz of acid to get from 180 to 90
With a goal of 75 on CYA, I am at 40 right now I need to add 5lbs of Stablilizer, what do I buy off the shelf to do that? Please bear with me, I am learning. Thanks for your help.

The app was developed by a member, not sure about the difference.

The app is saying you need 17oz of MA to lower the pH from 7.8 to 7.6 not that it will lower the TA from 180 to 90.
Why do you want to add more stabilizer? 40ppm is fine for the SLAM process.

You really need to lower the pH to about 7.2 and then you need to raise the FC much higher for the SLAM process according to the FC/CYA Chart.

You are correct, sorry I got messed up while typing. Ok so to get the pH to 7.2 I need to add 73oz of Acid, I have a jug of it at home. Do I add the bleach after I get the pH lower?

Ok, so while I wait for work to be over and being able to get home to add the acid please explain to me what I can buy to replace products from the pool store.

Raise pH: baking soda or washing soda. Not sure the difference
Lower pH- Muricitac Acid
Raise FC-regular bleach
Lower FC-?????
Raise TA-????
Lower TA-????
Raise CYA-????
Lower CYA-????
