Finally my DIY pool in Gonzales, Louisiana

So I know you can't tell by the picture so I'll try to explain what we are trying to do. In front of the building behind the pool tanning ledge there is approximately 12'. I would like to add a overhang onto the front of the building about 10' and with the eves matching what is already there it would bring it almost to the pools edge. If you are familiar with construction would you continue the roof line as(gable style) or revise to a hip style roof? Yesterday I set up a 12x12 easy up canopy in front of the building to see if the tanning ledge would be shaded by the sun passing. All day and the sun shade area was never inside of the pool which is what I was worried about.

Keep in mind the roll up door stays so we can open it up fully when having parties. It's actually a insulated door. And we are also going to change the front façade of the building by removing the vinyl siding and replacing it with brick to match the pool coping and brick work in the concrete deck that will be done this week. A lot of concrete work. Around 1400 sq ft.

Any thoughts?

Are you planning to stub out for any sort of outdoor kitchen? If you have any plans for it in the future it would be cheaper and easier to stub it out before the decking is poured.

Not a outdoor kitchen. But the building will be a future pool house with a kitchen built into it. Stove, sink, refrigerator and a bathroom to change cloths in. Building is currently 16x22 so it's just right.

Continue the gable and ridge line. You can leave it open for the architectural look, or finish the front off. If you close the front roof line you will have to come up with some kind of veneer ie vinyl, Hardi....

You can also lose the metal door roll up and put two French glass doors, esp if you brick the front.

+1 on the open gable end approach. Someone on here recently built an awesome pergola with a stone fireplace and had that effect going on.

I think I like the French door idea alittle better than the rollup door. Maybe I could find some wiggle room in my budget for it. And it would help seal the front of the building better. Thats' why I wanted to add onto the front as well. That building is way lower that the top of the coping and concrete deck. Creating a water issue. Almost to the point where we were thinking of adding 4" concrete to the inside of the building. Adding the front cover allows us to divert the water in a different direction and not along the front of the building.

A couple of more questions.

Our plaster is scheduled for this coming Friday. Diamond Brite Bahamas Breeze. Issue is were are suppose to be out of town Friday thru Monday for Memorial weekend. If we stay on schedule for Friday and we are out of town will that hurt the plaster by not adding the water? Most every plaster job I've read about was installed, acid washed and then they started filling pool. Would a delay of fill hurt anything?

Second question

Since I am doing a owner build I have no startup support. What startup chemicals will I need to have?

when you tie your decking or slab into the existing slab on your garage, just lay down some deck drainage perpendicular to the pool, then splash water and rain will drain away from door. Are you going to slope up to meet the coping or run out same elevation and step up to coping?

on your roofline I was referring to something like this: http://www.gazebocreations.com/structurepath/343/ramada/gable-roof-long-type/red-cedar/

Brick looks great Todd. I like the open gable suggestion also. Not sure if you plan on having any electrical out there (fans etc). Might need to consider bonding/grounding.

Can't believe how close you are. I haven't even found time to keep posting my pics.

Well we got a little further today. They install all the form boards so we can pour the concrete deck tomorrow. Moving right along. Plaster scheduled for Friday. Also depressured the lines and installed the deck jets now that the concrete has been prepped.

As promised the finishers showed up around 6:30 am and around 7:30am the first concrete truck showed up. Just after noon they were pulling out the driveway and done with the concrete deck. Now for the brick work and fire pit to tie it all in together.

Looking good, on the topic of cheap french doors, Check out Surplus Warehouse on Florida Blvd in Baton Rouge, I have bought stuff like this from their store in Lake Charles, and Alexandria before at very good prices. (I bought 2 exterior grade double door french doors with white vinyl exterior 3 or 4 years ago for under $700 total with tax, one was 72 inch the other a little narrower). It seems most of the stuff they sell is contractor grade like you would expect to find in an apartment building, etc., but they do also sell some nicer stuff, but it is hit and miss on what they have in stock. http://www.surplus-warehouse.com/

While walking around the new deck last night I realized that the concrete crew covered up one of our deck jets. We had ensured the two of them on the house side were ok when they were finishing. But with the water leak we found I guess we got distracted. We will have to get the tape measure out and figure out where it located and get it uncovered.

Plaster scheduled for Friday morning. The foreman called yesterday to confirm day, time and finish. Question: Diamond Brite finish. He asked if I wanted the aggregate exposed? Says it will be kinda rough if exposed. But I was thinking why by the Diamond Brite if you don't expose the aggregrate. So I guess my question is if the surface is rough or not with aggregate exposed? I told him to expose it.

Oh Gosh! So sorry to hear about that OOPS!

Shouldn't be hard to locate the area where it's located. Took the measurements off the others so I have a idea. Cousin that lined up the concrete crew says to let is sit a few days and it will probably crack where the deck jet is located anyway. Just depends on how deep it is? We will find it !!!!

Pool equipment was installed the day before yesterday. Something I thought was odd was the installer piped only the returns thru the salt clorinator. He said the salt cell would last longer and I would not have to keep moving the settings once the pool is started. Since the water features will not run all the time there was no need to run everything thru it. Is this ok???

Still waiting on the electrician to connect the electrical stuff.

Houston I think we have a problem. After we started adding water to the pool I noticed this wet spot to the side of the light fixture. Should I be worried?? I continued to fill the pool anyway because of instructions I received from the plaster foreman before he left. It was too late to contact him last night once I noticed this.
