Hello. Noob here. I noticed my SWG turned off and has no display. When I turn on constant power it comes on and flashes ‘no flow’ and then shuts off again.

My chlorine levels are good and pool looks good. Haven’t added salt for a while but last checked it was 3200. The unit is only about 7 months old. Is this a normal thing and what causes it? Trying to learn. Thanks

121,

I don't know much about your specific system, but no SWCG system will work if it thinks there is no water flowing through the cell.

If this were my system, I'd want to make sure I had plenty of water flow, and if I did, then I'd look at the flow switch and how it is connected to the system.

Thanks,

Jim R.

Check the cell, clear. Here is the switch. Guessing it is closed as the heater won’t kick on either (tries to start but sputters)

1. Think it’s a bad switch or system issue (should be under warranty)

2. Do these go bad often? Cause for them closing?

3. Any way to diagnose on my own?

Those Flow switches do go bad - check the connection at the box (phone cord plug) spiders love it. You can pull it out & manually close it to check but water will come out of the hole. There’s lots of YouTube videos on this.
I agree about the filters though- 1st thing to check since the heater isn’t getting flow either.
Whats your current psi?
Whats your clean psi?

Cleaned the filter. I recently put new polymeric sand down on my pavers and guessing a lot of dirt must have gotten in. The filter didn’t look dirty and pressure was around 7lbs. But some nasty sludge came out.

Kicked on the heater. It took a couple tries then kicked over and all seems to be running good now. Will clean the filter again in another day or two.

Anything else to keep a watch on? I guess that was it.

I went ahead and tested the FC to do the overnight test. I am at 7ppm. Will test first thing in the AM.

I did notice this at the water line that wipes away that had me thinking as well. And my chlorine has always been in the 8-12 range. Again with doing the sand last weekend I assumed some of that obviously got in the skimmer and dust settled in the water before I cleaned the filter today.

121,

If you have a small (1.5 HP) VS pump, and a heater, depending on your plumbing, a slightly dirty filter could make 2200 RPM right on the edge of what the heater and SWCG need to work..

Thanks,

Jim R.

UPDATE: SWG was operating fine for a couple days. Today, no display. All clean, clean filter. 4psi at 2200 rpm. Heater running fine. Pool Chemistry good.

Any thoughts? Again, it’s only 6 months old.

Also to note, to turn on or off the heater, it seems to take me holding the button like it doesn’t want to turn off or on.. almost sputters.
