Yeah, right! Dang slacker! :hammer: It was on the list to do but the tractor service guy ran late. Next time there will be peppers and onions!

Re: Official 2017 BBQ, Smoking, Grilling, Baking and Beer thread

Decided to braise a tri-tip tonight. Seasoned it, seared it, reduced some yellow onions with some boxed onion soup, added the meat then off to the oven.

Only a few chards of the Danny Big-Foot Special jerky left -

I'm think my next batch will be Teriyaki marinated but what meat to use... pork is yummy. Hmmm...will have to peruse the Costco meat selections....

Dang it! You'd probably eat it all before I got there...

All I need is a Foley catheter, side bag, Depends "undergarment" and my remaining stash of jerky and I think I can do it...just need to get an Air Force KC-135 StratoTanker to do some mid-journey refueling runs....

Re: Official 2017 BBQ, Smoking, Grilling, Baking and Beer thread

Just getting a chance to upload some pics - inspired by this thread - Sunday night threw some steaks and baked potatoes on the grill. We split one steak and had the same thing on Monday night - added some of our version of Mexican Corn or Street corn. The corn is grilled and then cut off the cob, dressing of mayo (1/2 to 3/4 cup depending on how much corn you have), 1 tsp chili powder, a full tablespoon of smoky paprika, 1 tsp garlic powder, 2 tablespoons of red wine vinegar. Pretty good stuff.

After dinner - we were stuffed, but the chocolate cake back up in post 117 was calling our name. Made a trip to the store to get buttermilk - gotta have it for recipes like this. I have to say, it really probably is about the best chocolate cake I've had. I can't make it often because it is rich with that icing, but it is a new go to cake - very good stuff. That recipe has been saved in a few places as to never lose it.

The one joy of baking once in a while is using a mixer that belonged to my Great Aunt - at this point it is probably close to 60 years old or so - works like a new one.

Thanks for the inspiration.

I seem to be picture challenged when adding more than a couple - but that finished cake looks just like up in 117 - it was amazing.

Nice cake!

Who the heck thinks somebody can walk 950 miles in 12 days? 79 miles per day. Every day. 12 days in a row. 6.6 miles per hour for 12 hours per day. Every day. 12 days in a row.

Re: Official 2017 BBQ, Smoking, Grilling, Baking and Beer thread

Decided to use up some Italian sausage I had and some peppers getting a little too old -

Sausage & Peppers

I like cooking the sausages on the grille -

Then I cook up the onions, garlic and peppers in pure olive oil -

Slice those sausages up and give it a good mix with salt, crushed red pepper and Italian seasoning mix -

Add about 2 cups of Victoria brand White Linen Marinara sauce -

Cook another 30mins on low heat and serve over pasta or with a big chunk of Italian bread. A nice glass of red wine goes well with it or your favorite beer.

Re: Official 2017 BBQ, Smoking, Grilling, Baking and Beer thread

That looks delicious! I spent the day removing all vegetation from the pots around the pool and replacing with new flowers and plants. Of course while doing that I found a few water lines going to the planters that needed repairing. Long story short, it was a quick burger and hotdog for me this evening. Now I just sat down and the Blues Brothers are starting, I have no choice but to watch it........again

Re: Official 2017 BBQ, Smoking, Grilling, Baking and Beer thread

2 lbs ground beef, 1 lb ground pork and 1 lb breakfast sausage just because it was there. Next time I'll leave out the breakfast sausage, it made it a little weird.
