Zodic MX-8 cleaner slows down in winter?

Does anyone else notice that their MX-8 suction-side cleaner needs a whole lot more suction to work smoothly in the winter? The cleaner just inches along and can barely climb a wall. I suspect the treads or the "impeller" part of it tightens up when the water is below 65 degrees or so.

I've replaced the treads and even the gear mechanisms and there's no change. Have also cleaned the DE filter.

The feed hose gets stiffer as the water gets colder which provides resistance to the cleaners movements.
