Why is my pool burping & no suctio

Hello,
I'm new to pools. I hope everyone out there is having a good nite. I need some help.
When I turn on the pump it starts to get suction but rises too fast so I turn it off and when I stop the pump, water pours out of the skimmer and anywhere else it can.
Please help? What's wrong with my pool?

I too am confused about what you are saying, but my "guess" is that the water level is too low or the skimmer door is stuck up..

Are the clamps tight on your pump filter lid?? I'm imagining the pump filter filling as the pump self primes...
