Which way is better to run your pump/filter?

Let's say you want to run your pump for 8 hours a day, is it better to?

A) Run it for a continuous 8 hours during the sunniest part of the day

or

B) Run it for 4 hours in the morning and 4 hours in the afternoon

Yes it's on an intermatic timer. I just need to buy another set of on/off pins. I was thinking it would be better to run it twice a day (morning and afternoon) rather than once a day for the whole time.

That's what I did. They're cheap, and it makes a lot of sense to me to spread out the runtimes. I also had an issue with them slipping on the wheel. if I wasn't watching carefully, the pump would run non-stop or not at all. More trippers reduces the impact of that.

Ditto on the pins slipping. Having the times split saved my pump from running 24 hours a day a few times last season.

Pliers will solve the pin slipping issue. I would pick C. 2 hours AM and 2 hours PM. More here about, Pool School - Determine Pump Run Time
